Rain X...is it really that good/worth the mula?

Was a RX user for many years. It seemed to drop off in performance after about a month and I would reapply. Never had any problems with application or other issues that seem to bother others. I tried Aquapel on all windows and it has been on for about four months now and still effective. Found the best prices on ebay if you buy quantities. In the future, Iwill use the AP on the front and back and use up my RX on the side glass.

So does anyone use anything for the windshield? I see you are all using Aquapel and stuff for the 'windows' but do you use it for the windshield as well? And if you do, how does it not get worn off by the windshield wipers?

i've been using rain-x and it has functioned very well. lasted long too..well..different opinions.

Save your money. Meguiars NXT Glass Cleaner has the same water beading effect that RainX does and the effect lasts longer too.

I agree with Scott. I use Meguiars NXT Glass Cleaner and it works really well. I also clean my windshield everytime I fill up gas which is about every week so my windshield is always clean and slick.

I use rainX, and also sometimes (when I misplace the bottle) a competing product called Rain Slick by 20/10, which is cheaper. I can't tell any difference between the two.

Watching the raindrops bead, run, and blow off is interesting. I still find I can see a bit better if I run the wipers and wipe the drops off entirely. I guess I could 'get by' without wipers but since I have them, why not use them? Safer, you know. For you and me.

The RainX does make my wipers work better - synergistic. This makes me think about the windows on the sides or rear that don't have wipers: is there any product that would make rain 'sheet' for these windows? A clear sheet might be easier to look through than a speckly beaded mess?

This is an effect i also remember from my motorcycle days, where I'd draw my glove constantly across the faceplate - not so much to wipe off all the rain but to smear the drops so I could see, because they act like little lenses.

Little lenses! Obscuring my VIEW!!

Hello

The 2 stage Carlack kit is great, im not sure if you can get it in the USA yet or if its the one that Werkstatt sells?

Very good, strong clean a bit of pig to get off if you apply too much. The glass sealant will last months (it has for me!) and needs to be left to dry on the glass before you attempt removal!

Give it a try:

JEFFS Werkstatt: the finest in automotive detailing wax and sealants

$22.99

Geoff

It is sold in the US, I talked Jeff Brandt about it a month or two ago. I plan to include some in the next order from the Werkstatt.

I know a lot of people use the Duragloss Aquawax, but why not their Rain Repel? Same brand, but it's actually made for the purpose of repelling rain on the windshield, and Aquawax is mad for paint. Just wondering if there is a reason most people use Aquawax and not Rain Repel.

I have used Aquapel and I am amazed at how long it lasts. My friend gave me one to try from his work last August and you're supposed to do like only the wind sheild and maybe two windows, but i spread it really thin and applied it to all my windows (I have a truck) and remember, this was last August, today I can just start to see signs its wearing off, there are streaks, but the water still beads and rolls off. My windshield was dirty when I applied it, never polished, never clayed and it held on very well! Aquapel is really expensive, but they truly hold up for at least 6 months!!! Its one of the first products I am very surprised with the results. I have used RX and its just like everyone else says: doesn't last very long. If you are interested in still using RX, there is a brand that Walmart makes to compete with RX and its like 97 cents for a bottle and I haven't really seen a difference between the two.

Its worth every penny.

'Check out Performance Tools Distributing - www.44tools.com to get a great price on Aquapel. They service the professional market and sell it in singles, 6 packs, 12 packs and full cases (24packs). The price can get as low as $3.96 per applicator if you buy 24 at a time. The full case also comes with the brochures, hang tags, oil change type reminder decals, etc. Just thought that I would share.;)'

When water sheets it distorts vision, so no, sheeting water on the side windows doesnt really help. I use rain-x on the side windows and it works great. Water just flies off going down the hw. :)
