Rain X...is it really that good/worth the mula?

I didn't have many problems using Rain-x, except sometimes the wipers would skip. I now use Clearkote's Quick Shine. It's easier to use and makes the rain bead off as well as Rain-x did. Also I know it's safe on paint; I was never sure with Rain-x.

I'm another vote against RX...I'd rather just clean the windows the conventional way; I simply prefer clean glass to how things work with RX (and yeah, I did give it an extensive, fair test; my wife hated it too).

I use RainX windshield washer fluid, and even with that, I barely have to use my wipers when it's raining.

Thanks for posting those links on Aquapel!

RainX windshield washer fluid should be banned IMO. Who wants that stuff all over their car's paint? I dislike (but can do much about) when people on the road start spraying their windsheild washer fluid and then it ends up on your car. Who knows what people are putting into their washer fluids these days?

'Check out Performance Tools Distributing - www.44tools.com to get a great price on Aquapel. They service the professional market and sell it in singles, 6 packs, 12 packs and full cases (24packs). The price can get as low as $3.96 per applicator if you buy 24 at a time. The full case also comes with the brochures, hang tags, oil change type reminder decals, etc. Just thought that I would share.;)'

It has always worked for me without any problems. Easy on, easy off (if you spritz with water) and seems to last forever. I probably put it on 2-3 times per year. If I ever run out of it I will probably give aquapel a whirl just because I like trying new things.

Yup, Ive always used rain-x in the bottle and Rain-x washer fluid. I keep a good coat of it on the side windows and it seems to last along time. I just give the windshield a spray each time it rains, I never use it when its not raining as that stuff will etch the paint.

I keep megs D-line glass cleaner and some MF's with me to clean the windshield.

Never had any problems with it not lasting or not coming off easily when using it. Great all around product and yes, the rain will fly right off the windshield!

I've got the Rain X wiper fluid in the reservoir right now. Whoo, it has a really strong odor to it. I also wonder what it's got in it, and how it's affecting the paint.

Does anyone else get these little dots, like dust particles, on the windshield after using Rain X? I noticed it with Rain X years ago, and now that I'm trying the fluid, I've got them again. And I can't see any real benefits. Spritz the stuff, and the wipers leave this film on the windshield that takes 10 seconds or so to evaporate.

Nope. Won't buy it again.

Your rain-x must be like your beer down there: WEAK!

I usually only have to apply twice a year.. I will say unless it's pouring though, my wipers usually streak a little...but most times, since the rain's falling off I hardly need to use wipers anyways....

However, I might have to try some PPG aquapel just to say I did.

Agreed! I am one of the few, I guess - but I am satisfied with Rain-X.

I am sure there are better products out there, but I find Rain-X lasts just a fine while (and I live in Florida so I think that is saying something!).

It's all in the application process, though. After I modified the process to my own (don't follow the instructions on the bottle), I no longer had problems with it.

Basically, make sure your windshield (and all other pieces of glass, including mirrors) is VERY clean, clayed, everything. Then dry it, and spray Rain-X onto something like a microfiber applicator.

Then apply it to all glass and mirror surfaces. Try not to miss any spots.

Wait like, I suppose, 15-20 minutes (I don't really have a hard rule about the time, but some time is good), and then if you have some time, go ahead and spray some more rain-x on the app, and go at your windows again (yes, this does mean you are applying through hazed rain-x).

Wait another 15ish minutes. If you want, you can "buff" with a towel (don't even expect to "clear" up the windows, they will stay streaked and hazy until the next step).

Then, wash all your windows with something like car shampoo and a hose. Then dry with a leafblower.

Assuming no waterspots, you have 100% FLAWLESS glass right now :D that also beads water profusely!

Of course, we all know beading water isn't enough - the surface has to be *slick* enough to where the water flies off at speed. And Rain-X does that very well.

I think the last time I put on Rain-X was about 2 months ago, and it shows no signs of letting up.

BTW, I have tried using ONR instead of shampoo + water (since I basically use ONR all the time now). It doesn't really work as well at getting rid of the haze and streaks from dried, but unbuffed, Rain-X. :nixweiss

I use Rain Away, a RainX competitor, lower priced. I never tried the real RainX, but I'm satisfied with RA. Works wonders on the car and can last for about 3 months on my car. I reapply monthly when I wax.

Doesn't work as good on my SUV though. The windshield is almost vertical, that's probably why.

I've never witnessed Rain X lasting more than a few months tops (if that). I love not needing to use my wipers in a rain storm, but that usually falls off after 2 rains/washes. I'm definately in search of a better product to try too.

I still have alot of Rain-X in the Garage that I wanted to get rid of. I will try your process on a couple of my customer cars. I like your process in theroy. Thanks :)

Try Z-2 or Z-5. Works great and has that Zaino durability!! I use Z-12 first.

I did Z-2 on the windshield one time. The first rainstorm there was a bit of a film to see through but nothing serious. After that I don't recall using the wipers for a long time.

That is what I have been using lately, I just offered up NXT Glass Cleaner as an OTC solution.

I really like Castrol Accuvision. It is a lot easier to use than RainX IMO. Since I cant seem to find it anywhere now, I just use OCW (even if it isnt the LSP for the paint).

What is in NXT glass cleaner that causes it to bead so well scott? Ive never used NXT but I do use Megs D-line glass cleaner. Does it give the same results? I wont be needing glass cleaner for along time since I have 3 gallons of D-line. :xyxthumbs

Don't know what is in NXT but Eagle 20/20 does the same thing too. Never tried D-line so I can't answer your question.
