Quickie Review: M105

Yeah chefwong - for real. I live out in the country, I hope the Time Warner guys get the cable out my way soon or at least a DSL from Embarq.

On the other hand, there's no neighbors, or home owners assoc. to tell me what I can or can't do on my own piece of dirt.

JuneBug, thought you lived in NC? No DSL? :work:

Silva - I do live in NC, however, they just haven't run the cable my way - it's about a mile away now.

GMBlack3A - I heard Infinity paint is very soft. You might want to try that on a few others to confirm.

Actually its not on the soft side. At least on the black M35s and G35s that I have polished, they have a sticker on the underside of the hood that says something about a "hard" clear coat. Its not corvette hard, but no where near as soft as porsche clear. This is all IMO, your findings may differ.

I had a 3-4" wide area in the middle of the hood that I taped off. I was taking readings with my Defelsko Positest DFT Combo. I removed the moderate defects with the 2 passes of M105/yellow edge wool at 1500. I then did one pass of UF with the blue 3M foam pad. I removed the tape, wiped down the area with Z6 to ensure that no tape residue remained.

I then took like 10-15 readings on the corrected and uncorrected areas. More then half of the readings showed no reduction in thickness. I tried to take them right next to each other as close as possible.

I did 2 passes today with M105 and a yellow edge wool. With my PTG it removed approx 0.1mil or less. This was on a black Infiniti M35.

Thanks for posting that!

That's still a fair bit of clear (around 1/3 of what can ever be removed) but it's not outrageous.

Yeah, taking readings is a skill, those ETGs aren't foolproof by any means IME.

Still waiting for my PhaseII gauge to come back from being repaired....

Just got some 105 today at the Mirror Glaze franchise in town. It is in the 30's here, I assume that is too cool to use the product? It would gum up correct?

Finish Master in Wilmington, Delaware has it for $30 a quart...

Hmm. I ordered mine from ADS on Sunday and still no delivery its said to be delivered on the 10th which is monday, my last shipment took a long time too.

I just ordered from ADS about an hour ago, M105 32 oz, plus some other wool pads, backing plates etc. I just got a shipping confirmation a few minutes ago. That's pretty quick.

Maybe the gallon size when ordered was backordered?

Anyone have any thoughts/experiences with M95? It seems like the same product in terms of abrasiveness.

So in your guys opinion what is the best pad/wool to use with 105?

So far, the best pad I have used with the 105 has been a yellow Edge wool pad. I found that working the product at 1500 rpm worked the best for me. Ryan also picked me up a couple Meguiars Solo wool pads that I have yet to try with 105.

Ryan told me that he had really good luck using a yellow Solo foam pad with 105 and had no issues.

I agree with Rick on the edge yellow pad. I just received my new order direct from edge and got 2 each of the yellow and green wool, plus the new industrial adapter.

Also as Rick has stated in the past, M105 works much better when you pick the polish up off of the paint with your slow spinning pad, instead of applying it directly to the pad.

I tried it on wednesday and yes, it's amazing. Around 20 seconds working time with Menzerna wool pad and it removed completely 3000 grit sand marks with a not very bad finish, check the pics:
