Question for all the speeders here

Hey Polaris, how's the car??

Around here, Photo radar was the big thing. It is mounted in vans and in boxes close to road level. Luckily the gov't decided to stop using it as it was an incredible unfair system of Fair Use Rights. With that said, Photo Radar was a very short beam aimed very low on the road. Why, so few radar detectors would pick it up and it would be too late. Believe me, it was a horrible 10 years with that type of radar!!

What I should also add is that here in Canada, the laser is quickly becoming the radar of choice. The police set up their tripods on the sides of banks etc... then radio ahead where another police officer pulls you over! The K and X bands are used very little. The wider spectrum, KA much more here. But laser is the real PITA!!

The car is incredible, thanks for asking. :D :D :D :D :D

And yup, photo radar's pretty bad, from what people tell me. Considering the fact that it is still radar, will reflect MUCH more (than lidar), and you'll still probably enounter more radar than lidar (unless your local LEO's are on a lidar stint right now), I'd think it'd still be better mounted high. Regardless, I'm sure you'll get great performance either way. :xyxthumbs

Your right Polaris, the point is mute. I was becoming annoyed when people can not have a difference of an opinion without sarcasm/bantering. Thank you for not doing that. At least, we agree to disagree and I respect that!

I apologize if you took offense to my "sarcasm"... I do still feel that your point about the difference that 4-5 feet would make is wrong (and laughable), but you can disagree if you want.

But the fact still remains that although there was a difference of opinion, your opinion about mounting the radar detector low is wrong, according to the manufacturers. There is no agreeing to disagree here.

Take that as you will.

Well, yeah, and I love mine mounted up near the rearview mirror, too. But what you've gotta realize is that some people still prefer low, centralized mounting. Will there be a difference? Probably. Will it be significant? I dunno, and I'm not sure it'd be much anyway, but I like what I consider to be a slight edge in optimizing my mounting location. Same reason I got a V - lots of BS alerts, but quite good sensitivity on actual police radar.

2hot, I just noticed you're in Canada. I don't know which, but I know that there's only a few provinces in which radar detectors are legal. Are they in yours?

And besides, dookie, if his low and central mounting position works for him - and I can definitely see what he's saying, considering what he said to be a big increase in lidar use - then excellent! :xyxthumbs

Radar detectors are legal in British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. He's in BC.

True, if it works for him, then great. All I'm saying is that the manufacturers recommend otherwise.

Sal Zaino recommends no topper on his products... but I see a lot of people doing it anyways. To each his own :p

Dookie, it is not what you say but how you say it!! It is called respect. Do you want me to read your detailing posts, and pick them apart and laugh at you? I do not think so!

Besides, I am not that kind of person. I will offer a helping hand, but never laugh at you when we have a difference of an opinion.

Point taken. Although I wouldn't get so worked up over an argument on a message board :nixweiss
