It's a great machine, i love mine. Just make sure the washer that seperates the backing plate is always in or else it will overheat and start flinging pads everywhere!

Use the Lake Country Hook & Loop Flexible 5 inch Backing Plate for excellent balance and control with the Porter Cables 7424XP Dual Action Polisher.
 
good move danielsp12, you won't regret that purchase. mike phillip's video that comes with it is excellent. you'll definitely want 3-4 extra orange and white pads each or you'll be constantly stopping to clean pads as you polish. as you can tell, you might as well ask for a credit limit increase on your card for all the extra goodies. congrats :)

I Agree!
You will want more pads. I'd suggest the Flat pad over the CCS pads. Lake Country 5 1/2 inch Flat Foam Pads
Get ready to be addicted!:rockon
 
For me, the LC HT pads work great and IME a full size backing plate will enhance the overall performance of your machine significantly. These have been developed by Kevin Brown (a forum member) and I just recently bought and used it on my own PC 7424XP - I'm not exaggerating when I say it's like a different machine. If you want his contact info you can either send me a PM or search the member directory. Best of luck and be prepared to keep an open mind and learn a lot - members here are terrific and more then willing to help.
 
The first thing I did was remove the handle. I prefer to cup my hand over the top. It increases the "feel".
If you do this (recommended) you must replace the handle with a screw. I got mine from Ace hardware.
