If you do NOT put a screw and a washer in the hole the black cap cover will slide right off!!!
It will slide right off the front. You will have a black cap in one hand & a machine in the other.
Although this could be interesting and exciting while you are polishing...it is not a good thing.

Even the GG 6" has the same requirement. It has a U shaped handle with a bolt on each side.
I remove both bolts and discard the handle. Then I replace both screws into the machine head.

i just overheated mine but i don't know what washer you're talking about....

there's a plastic washer that goes between the backing plate and the polisher body. it slips on the threaded stud on the back of the backing plate.

thanks steve, gonna have to get me some of those. think i cooked the 7424xp though. starting my research for another as the pc is out of warranty.
