Porsche 997 Carrera S

Here is my latest detail. The car belongs to my brother in law. He has always been very picky with his cars, but he is becoming more knowledgeable in the detailing scene because of me sharing all the great info that I have gathered on this forum. He is becoming an obsessive detailer just like myself. I even got him cleaning his undercarriage and now he wants to take his wheels off and give them a thorough cleaning and claying front side and back side.

He has had this car for a little over a year now with only ~ 5,000 miles. Of course, the dealer swirled it up moderately. Nothing too severe, but definitely unacceptable for an autopian. After spending many hours perfecting the finish I can honestly say that the car is now virtually swirl free. Here are some pics of the finished product...

Don't know about clnfrk, but I find the paint to be soft and easily marred, especially on the front and rear plastic "bumpers"

I couldn't agree with you more. Marring on the front and rear plastic portions are much harder to remove also. Definitely soft paint.

these pictures are perfect! excellent work! How long did it take with the pc? Do you have any before pictures?

I have no idea exactly how long it took, but I did stretch it out over 2 days. I did take many breaks in between also.

Sorry, I do not have any before pics. I seem to always forget to take pictures beforehand, but once all is said and done the first thing I think about is taking the pics to post here. :D

Beautiful!!! Did you take the wheels off to clean them? They are very deep!

No, I did not take the wheels off to clean them. The nice thing about them is that the spokes are wide enough for me to be able to reach in there with my hand and a microfiber towel and clean all the way to the edge of the wheels.

Is the paint hard or soft?

I think that traditionally, Porsche paint is soft

Those are some great results! A nice car and an even better job at bringing out the beauty in that paint :waxing:

From another 997 C2S owner.... NICE JOB!!!!:2thumbs:

What? No PSE? I hope he did add sport cats and headers.

Oh man... wood accents? Not what I'd get in a "P" car, maybe in a Benz, but not a Porsche.

Nice work on the engine bay!! I know how much a PITA it is.

Yes, Porsche paint is soft, try not to breath on it. Wiping has to be done with ultra plush MF's and have a few on hand to change often.

I find that the SONUS leather conditioner is the closest thing to new Porsche leather smell. It doesn't smell good out of the bottle, but what it DOES do is release the tanning chemicals and oils from when it was first done. It refreshes the leather back to the natural unique clean smell that I've only found in Porsche cars. It was developed by DavidB who also is a "P" car owner. He used the skins from Porsche still in plastic bags when he was going to change a seat, but kept them. This is how it got matched. Put it on the leather, close the doors and open later to be greeted by the same smell when it was new. Very cool! Prior, I used Zaino Z-10 on all other leathers, but found it too strong an odor for Porsche. Still use Z-10 on other leathers.

I'm sure he's a member of RENNLIST!

Great work!

Which verysion of Menzerna IP did you use? the one I use dusts A LOT! and is not very effective at all.

bonoz-yes IP does dust a lot. When I have to use it, I spritz my pad with distilled water and work in smaller areas with minimum product and check it often, re-spritzing as needed. Lately, I use Optimum, with a LC white pad, then with a gray pad and top with either Aqua Wax or Duragloss, which I like to put on with one of the LC red pads.

I've tried different things on the plastic bumpers and get better results with very light to no pressure. I've got some poli-seal on those areas now and find it's very good for the clear bra material that I have on my front bumper valance.

A couple more photos attached--and I must thank Patrick, Anthony and Deanski for thier great tips (not intending to highjack clnfrank's thread-just wanted to share a little info)

Deanski,

I actually asked him about the PSE, which I first heard about while reading your thread a while back concerning the ordering and delivery of your car. and he plans on getting that also. He is also aware of the headers, but I'm not really sure if he intends on getting them also. He was actually the one who told me about the headers saying they are either chrome or highly polished. I can't remember which one it was. I have to say that I don't really care for the look of the standard exhaust. It looks too rusty.

Funny you mentioned the wood accents. I had told him that I felt wood trim had no place in a Porsche, at least in the 911's. Perhaps a Cayenne with wood trim would be better, but still don't feel it has much of a place in there either. He loves the wood though and even told me about how one of his friends in a Benz commented about the Porsche having real wood vs. fake wood in his Benz.

I also showed him pictures of your car from the thread I mentioned above and he really likes the ceramic brakes and aero kit except for the rear wing that he felt was too high. I also told him about the armor glove that you got. He is very anal about rock chips so he is very interested in getting it.

As for the engine bay, it really wasn't bad at all. I just wiped down all the areas with a damp microfiber towel that I could reach and it came out great. I hate it when you open the engine cover after a wash and water drips all over it. Not a big deal if you plan on cleaning it anyway, but when you just want to wipe along the edges its really annoying.

I also find that the Menzerna IP and Blackfire dust quite a bit, however they do produce great results. I usually end up rewashing the car after I'm done, which is what I did with this car.

If you are finding the IP to not be effective, perhaps it has something to do with your pad selection and what you are trying to correct with this polish/pad combo. You may need something more aggressive in your situation.
