Meg's Plastx: Didn't do anything for my Instrument Cluster no matter how I tried the application and removal. In fact I'm pissed cuz it made it worse.

Optimum Foam Pads: Tend to shed foam (like a dust) when in use

If there the foam pads I think they are (and this is very typical of most pads) they are actually sanded in the end process, to ensure a more uniform buffing surface. What your exeriencing is just the sanded particles which may have become embedded into the foam cells.....next time you have a new pad, just run it on your hand at about 4 or 5, until the "dust clears"......

Also, if your using the pads a little on the dry side, it can cause unecessary attrition, and abrade the foam prematurely. A simple squirt of H2O in the beginning, can help the product of choice, impregnate the foam cells much easier.

Sorry for temporarily jacking the thread......

Meguires swirl remover 2.0 = junk.

Eagle One car wash soap = junk, doesnt suds up

Mequires Car was shampoo and conditioner = junk, doesnt suds up

Mothers 3 step wax process = junk, I could piss on my car and get more shine out of it than that stuff

I tried applying it with a foam applicator, Meg's own in fact, and for removal I used brand new MF's from Detail King which I knew not to scratch.

Didn't do much of anything but make a mess and was quite hard to remove. So I went over to Meg's forums and read some others were having issues like me and the reply was to really run it in.

Well that did it alright. The instrument cluster is more scratched than before. I even removed it from the dashboard and took it in the house to have a little more room to work on it. Results were getting worse and worse so I brought some Plexus and called it a day.

Hmm, I've had good luck with that product on instrument clusters. You just have to remember that you are dealing with fine abrasives, that must be broken down.

That's not to accuse you of using it improperly. It just surprises me to hear that after all the good results I've gotten from it. :nixweiss

Thanks for the tips Pat:

None of my 3M, LC, or Shelgel foam pads behave like that though and I use them all the same way and wash them the same way and it's not just when they are new, it was every time I tried to use them.

I actually just gave up and went back to my others although the reason I got them cuz I needed some more 6" pads as was going to go with more LC's. My main pads are the Schelgels which are only made in 8".

1ZPP just didn't cut it for me (pun intended) on my black car with water spot etchings, via PC and orange pad. I'm sure it's a nice polish if the paint is in good shape.

WG detail spritz. Nothing great, but not BAD. I can do without, and will not be buying more, unless it drops down to $6 or $7 a bottle.

I'm gonna have to also add OP to the list. It really didn't do a darn thing for me via PC. I probably used too much and/or didn't work it in long enough. I'm not giving up on it yet.

The tin housing #16 is enough to turn me away. Gimme a break, a screwdriver to open the darn thing every time I want to wax? I know, I know... nostalgia.

Other than that, I have been happy with everything I've tried. I don't mind SG at all.

It's all good man, I rubbed it like I was expecting something "joyful" to happen and never got anywhere.

By contrast when I use it on the Bi-Xeons on the Audi it works as advertised. Go figure

Most products give at least decent results but a few I don't particularly care for are:

Turtle Wax Clear Vue Glass Cleaner-very streaky

Meguiars new wheel brushes-the head is too large, I can't get it between the tire and fenderwells on any cars and maybe about half the SUVs and trucks I clean

Detailer's Pride Super Swirl Eliminator-the product itself works very well but the dusting is horrible

Pretty much any sealant on my own black 626.

A couple more I thought of:

Sonus swirl removers- didn't remove the swirls, dusted bad, didn't buff off easily

Pinnacle Advanced Swirl Remover- TOO HARSH!! It was like liquid sandpaper. I used it with my rotary to clean the water spots off my shower doors though lol! Then I threw it out.

Meguiar's #9- Like others said, didn't remove swirls, kind of a wasted step

:LOLOL Now THAT'S a funny mental picture :buffing:

Yeah I admit it was comical lol. I tried everything to get those spots off. It would have taken hours by hand so I pulled out the rotary with a cutting pad and the most aggressive stuff I had (Pinnacle) and went to work. That glass had never been so clear! I sealed it with SG afterwards too :D

OCP!

I know its just me using it incorrectly but I don't like it, I just can't see the point of polishing for 2-3 times as long as I would with a.n.other polish. In the UK we don't get too much heat and direct sunlight that would necessitate it.

I'm not slating it as I know many love this its just me!

Thanks for your feedback on that. I keep hearing mixed reviews. What do you prefer?

Forever Black Trim Dye - all it does it streak and not leave a glossy black finish, cannot be used after trim is treated with clearkote VM and any other trim restorer

Forever black tire gel - burns off almost straight away and there is absolutely no shine

WG detail spray - good but not great

Meg's Pro 2.0 Swirl mark remover - seems like a glaze, fills scratches and swirls rather than removing them

Meg's Tire Gel - hi gloss or normal , product builds up and doesn't last as long as others, lots of residue

Clearkote blue moose cutting creme, unless you use it with a wool pad on a really old paint job, it's worthless. Can't use with any foam pad at any speed with rotary as it leaves swirl marks like those old school 70's compounds.

Clearkote shampoo - no conditioning or protective qualities

PC users - you must remember that a PC cannot level paint like a rotary, I only use a rotary

I agree with white95max about the WG black diamond, the stuff rocks, I have 2 x 64 oz containers of it.

The original formula sonus sfx polishes are ok with a rotary but I recommend that people use them by hand with an ultimate german applicator, does remove swirls and scratches well and SFX 3 glaze is brilliant

PB's SSR's and optimum polish are superb with my makita 9227 rotary using edge yellow, green and blue pads, by PC they might not be able to do the job.

Megs NXT never impressed with ease of use, removal or looks.

Megs Supreme Shine MF's - No where near as Plush As I expected, leagues bellow Pakshak Ultra Plushes and Sonus Der Wunder Buffing Towels.

Wolgang Polishing Pal - Bulky and cumber some to use, lose the feel you have of a hand foam pad.

Megs NXT Car Shampoo - To strong

Megs -#21 - Average looks.

Opt Polish - Just cant get on with it, works ok as a final polish, but not to correct defects by PC.

Sonus Detailing Spritz - How ever I use it streaks shockingly.

Megs #16 - Didnt look anything special, lots of rave reviews about it left me wondering why.

Clearkote VM – Stains trim, limited cleaning properties, doesn’t remove fine spider webs.

4* UPP – Very slick, but metallic flake doesn't pop, extremely poor durability (< 3 weeks).

OCW – Easy to use, though inadequate durability (about 6 weeks) . . . mutes the shine on some colors. I’m convinced this is a simple QD spray.

Perhaps I lay victim to the board’s excitement, but objectively they didn’t meet my expectations.

Of course this thread starts the day after I placed orders with AutoGeek and TOL for many of the products listed. I guess i'll have to find out for myself.

JBM - I'm also curious as to what you didn't like about S&G. I have 2 gallons of it, and I love it.

Could be a Florida thing, but i get streaks with S&G and a slight haze with S&W on black.

Both dry very fast for me.
