Poorboy's World Detailing Weekend

The dinner sounds like a great idea to me! What hotel are we looking to stay at, I need to book a room too!

Candlewood Suites, 20 Overlook Boulevard, Nanuet, NY
$90, 10 miles, 21 minutes

Comfort Inn, 429 East Route 59, Nanuet, NY
$158, 11 miles, 19 minutes

Days Inn, 357 West Route 59, Nanuet, NY
$98, 12 miles, 20 minutes

Fairfield Inn Marriott, 100 Spring Valley Marketplace, Spring Valley, NY

Super 8 Motel, 47 Route 59, Nyack, NY
$89, 14 miles, 21 minutes

Okay everyone, here's the tentative plan for lodging and food (disclaimer: this plan is not yet set in stone) -

The recommended hotel location is The Candlewood Suites, 20 Overlook Boulevard, Nanuet, NY 10954. Phone number is 845.371.4445. This location was chosen due to its reasonable weekend rates ($89.00 per night for a queen bed suite), convenient location with easy off/on from I-287 (New York State Thruway) near the intersections with the Garden State Parkway and the Palisades Parkway, a safe and clean parking lot (very important for Detail City members), and it's just far enough from a main road to be fairly quiet. Here is the website for internet bookings - Candlewood Suites, Nanuet, NY

The optional dinner event is expected to take place Saturday evening at the New Country Buffet, 175 Route 59, Spring Valley, NY 10977. This restaurant is an international cuisine all-you-can-eat buffet. The location is one mile from the Candlewood Suites.

Poorboy is also planning to book a room at the Candlewood Suites for an after dinner gathering. It will just be a place to unwind and engage in some friendly conversation.

Food during the detailing event itself will be mainly on-your-own; however, Poorboy is planning to provide some type of quick meal on-site (probably something like hotdogs and chips). For those of you who don't like hotdogs and don't feel like packing a brown bag lunch, McDonald's, KFC/Pizza Hut Express, Dunkin Donuts, and Subway are all within walking distance.

If anyone who is thinking of getting a room can pm me, I will go to the hotel and see if I can work out a better group rate.:)

The long range Accuweather forecast says "Partly sunny. Winds from the W at 3 mph. High 77." Sounds perfect! :)

Even if the weather isn't perfect, there will be some pop-up tents available as well as a large indoor area. If you have your own canopy that you'd be willing to bring along, there will be plenty of room for you to set it up. :mohawk

Speaking from experience (last year), I just wanted to note on some things to bring (reccomended):

-Pop up tent (you will drip more sweat than polish on your paint if it is like it was last year)
-Chairs (Liz and I got 2 folding chairs in the little bags...after some time you will want to sit)
-Cooler with drinks/food (McDonalds is the only place in walking distance)
-Extra drinks (can't stress this enough)
-Camera (we certainly need a lot more pics than last year)
-Comfortable clothes (bring a change of clothes as well as you will probably get sweaty)
-Sunscreen (there is NO shade where we will be working with the exception of maybe 2 spots)

Hope this helps.

Judging by the photos of the GTG last year, that lot seems pot hole prone. Watch out, especially those two great red cars I know that will be there.

Steve & Co,

Any chance Natty Blue will be avalible that day? As you said, it looks good on red.

I would advise all to read GRStilez list on what to bring!! Last year was HOT as HELL! Canopy, chairs, drinks etc all worth bringing if you can. More camaras!!! Need lots and lots of pics!!

Just like the prior detail day, leave ALL other products home. He supplies all products. However, bring your pads, MF towels as those are in short supply and most have their fav pads anyway. For those willing to share pads, please mark them. Some pads went MIA.

Extension cords are always needed as well. That's unless you want to spin you rotary by hand... A wash bucket for those washing is a must along with your mitts. There will be some avalible, just coordinate with those using them.

And for those who HAVE to bring the ball and chain, there is allways Woodbury Common! A favorite place for robo-shoppers! Top designer outlets sure to please any wife and to make any husband cry like hell when the credit card bill arrives! Oh yea, MAKE SURE you have room for all the bags she brings back. I can bet you'll be forced to leave your detail supplies to make room for all the bags she brings back! Here's a tip: FED EX! or UPS Store! Hey, space is limited in an SC!!!

It's a wonderful time to try new product, put faces to forum names and swap stories!

See you there Sunday!

Regards,
Deanski

Hope the weather is good to all of you. :bigups

It turns out I will be in the NE that weekend but still too short notice and too far geographically: ( South Jersey)

Take care and I'll anxiously be awaiting the pics.

Hotel Room Block

I went to the Candlewood Suites yesterday to check out their facilities and to confirm pricing. Their Sales Manager, Mike Brands, confirmed that their best price is the "Internet Promo" rate of $89.00 per night for a Studio Suite (queen bed, kitchenette, desk, recliner chair, TV, VCR, high speed internet access, free local phone calls). If you are a member of AARP, there is an additional 10% discount. I asked to see one of these rooms and found it to be exactly as pictured on their website in this link: Studio Suite Guest Room. IMHO, this rate is a bargain considering all that you get. The manager explained that this hotel caters to business travellers and has a very low occupancy rate on Saturday nights. That is why they are able to offer this pricing.

You will probably also be able to request a room which has a view of a specific area of the parking lot (we DC types always like to be able to see our vehicles).

A block of rooms has been set aside at these rates. If you want to book a room with our group, you must phone in your reservation. Call 845.371.4445 and speak to someone at the Front Desk. Tell them that you are with the "Poorboy's World Car Club" which has a block of rooms reserved in their computer system. Any rooms left unbooked by Friday afternoon (June 24th) will be released back to the general public.

[Note: If you would like to upgrade to a larger one bedroom suite (separate sleeping area, larger desk, and sofa), the cost is $175.99 per night and there were only 3 of these rooms still available as of yesterday.]

Directions to the site of Detailing Weekend

Poorboy’s World Detailing Day Driving Directions

Location:
Rockland County Chevrolet Buick
51 S Route 9W
West Haverstraw, NY 10993
845.947.2100

The following driving directions should pertain to most attendees.

1. Use Mapquest to plot your route to the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Rockland County, New York. [Note to "leadfoots" - There are often speed traps on the Palisades Parkway. Beware of patrol cars hiding between clumps of trees.]

2. Once on the Palisades Parkway, take Exit 14 - Letchworth Village. [Note: If approaching from the South, Mapquest will probably tell you to take Exit 13 - Pomona. But, that route is much more complicated than taking Exit 14.]

3. At the end of the Exit 14 ramp, head East on Rockland County Route 98 (a bright blue colored sign). If you were driving Northbound on the Palisades, you will turn Right off the ramp. If you were driving Southbound on the Palisades, you will turn Left off the ramp. This road is also known as Willow Grove Road.

4. Drive approximately 2.5 miles. Along the way, you will pass: a Sunoco station on the left, the intersection with Route 47, the Marion Shrine on the right, and the intersection with Route 33. As you pass Route 47, the name of the road changes from Willow Grove Road to Filors Lane. [Caution: The intersection with Route 47 is a 3-way , but only two directions have a Stop sign.]

5. Route 98 ends at the intersection with Route 9W/202. Turn right at the traffic light and head South on 9W.

6. Drive 0.9 miles. Along the way, you will pass: Helen Hayes Hospital on the right, Gordon Ford on both sides of the road, Dunkin Donuts on the left, and Samsondale Plaza (Shoprite) on the right.

7. After passing Samsondale Plaza, you should be able to see the white and blue sign for "Chevrolet Buick" ahead on the right side of the road.

8. If you get to McDonald's, you've gone too far.

9. If you get totally lost, call the dealership (845-947-2100). We’ll get somebody to try to talk you in.

Detailing Weekend Rules of Conduct

Poorboy’s World Detailing Day Rules of Conduct

Poorboy's will provide:
- The full line of Poorboy's World branded products, except microfiber towels and apparel.
- Water source, hose, buckets, and mitts for washing vehicles. Sorry, no brushes will be available.
- Bob at Danase.com has generously donated some new Lake Country PC pads for those of us with limited supplies. Dwayne at Premiumautocare.com donated pads last year which we will also be reusing this time. (Thanks Bob and Dwayne!)
- A few pop-up tents will be available. If you would like to bring your own tent, there will be room available for you to set it up.
- In the case of inclement weather, an indoor portion of the dealership’s service area will be available for our use.
- Ice cold bottled drinking water will be available all day.
- A simple lunch (something along the lines of hotdogs and chips) will be provided on site free of charge. You may also choose to bring your own lunch and beverages (keep it in an insulated cooler) or walk/drive to a nearby restaurant. McDonald’s is directly across the street. KFC/Pizza Hut Express , Dunkin’ Donuts, Subway, a pizzeria, and a Chinese buffet are all within 1-2 blocks of the dealership.

Your responsibilities:
- Upon arrival, drive to the left side of the building and park where indicated. The dealership will be open for business as usual that weekend, so it is important for us to park in the designated area.
- Sign in at the registration table and receive a name tag.
- If possible, arrive with a freshly or recently washed vehicle. While washing implements will be available on site, time would be better spent on other aspects of detailing.
- Provide your own PC and/or rotary buffer along with all necessary accessories such as electrical extension cords (at least 100 foot lengths would be best), pads, bonnets, wrenches, and connectors.
- Provide your own applicator pads, microfiber towels, and other miscellaneous detailing tools (tire swipes, toothbrushes, foam paint brushes, mitts, etc.).
- PLEASE LEAVE ALL OTHER PRODUCTS AT HOME. While many of us delight in comparing detailing products from various manufacturers, let's keep in mind that this outing is being sponsored by Poorboy's World. This is an opportunity for all of us to try Poorboy's products for free and get Steve's personal hands-on help with our detailing questions. So, it would be considered good manners to stay on topic by focusing our attention on Poorboy's World products for the duration of this event.
- Bring your own lawn chairs, sunscreen, and sunglasses. You may want to bring a change of clothing. As mentioned above, you may choose to pack a lunch/beverages instead of dining onsite or at a nearby restaurant.
- At the end of the day, please clean up after yourselves.
