Picus & Holden_C04 - Polishing Perfection

double ^^^

Worst "complete detail" I corrected cost the owner $240. Anything above $80 for this type of "work" is enough for small claims court I think... $500 is just way too ridiculous... I would do a better job with one arm, a rotary, and my eyes closed... for $300 haha

Great job on the cars

Well, the cars look great! I've been thinking of trying out some of that CG citrus wash soon.

You've got to try it with a foam cannon, i did it for the first time this week on two cars. one i didnt need to touch, just foam, wait, rinse. The other was my wife's work truck, that needed two washes, at minimal lol

Is it just me or does the front bumper on the black vette look hazy in the last pic of the first post :nixweiss

Nice lookin' vette's there.

There are no pictures of the front bumper of the Black Z06. :nixweiss

Thanks anyway. :)

EDIT: There's a shot of the corner of the bumper with some stone chip type marring. Is that what you are referring to? If so, it's not going to be removed.

I was referring to this picture...

The sun's reflection looks hazy and spread, rather than crisp.

It's the angle of the camera. You're looking at the very edge of focus. Expecting it to be perfect is asking a little much.

In any case, the car was mint when delivered. Shots were taken at various times throughout the detail so if it needed to be repolished, it was.

Wasn't asking it to be perfect, was just asking if anyone else saw that and thought the same thing. I'm aware of how a camera focuses. Sorry if it seemed like some sort of personal attack on your work.

I see it. The front bumper of that car is sandblasted, it's got 161k km and still the original bumper. I think the light just caught the billions of tiny stone chips.

I've actually worked on that car 3 times, got it damned near perfect in November but it was sent out for an engine rebuild (510rwhp) and the body shop buffed it poorly... kind of nice to have the history of a car when working on it.

Here it is in Nov: SimpleViewer

And when I first saw it: GTA In Detail

Great work guys. A few questions:

I noticed on one Vette, it was wash with CG CW&G and the other two with ONR. What was it about the one Vette that made you want to use CW&G on it? Extra cleaning power?

Also, Menz IP was used on one Vette and SIP on another. What was the theory in using different polishes?

Similar to above, why was Concorso used on one and Vintage on the other two?

How long does Concorso and Vintage last? If not very long, are these cars you care for with some regularity and can touch up the waxes?

Do you like P21S Paintwork Cleanser better than Swissvax's and Zymol's own paint cleaners? Does P21S work well with pretty much all Carnaubas?

Thanks for all your help.

Good questions, here are the answers. :D

1) I used Citrus Wash & Gloss because Tyler wasn't there yet, and I tend to wash traditionally in the summer when possible. I like getting wet! :D None of them were particularly dirty.

2) SIP and the first vette (the black one) don't get along well. You may have already read about "sticky" paint, or paint that seems to pull your rotary when you use SIP (and to a lesser extend 106ff/8rd) on them. I knew this about the black vette but forgot, tried SIP on one panel and remembered; then switched to IP.

3) Tyler hadn't used Concorso and as we got conversing I said "well let's use it on this car then", so we did. That simple!

4) Neither lasts as long as a sealant, I've seen up to 3 months with Vintage on garaged cars, similar with Concorso. The Stingray is a garage queen, the other two are driven but not a lot anymore. I'll probably see at least two of them again this summer. At least two of the owners like to wax their own cars too, and I think the third may join them.

5) Yes and yes. Easier to use, similar effect, cheaper. I've been using P21S GEPC for a long time and prefer it to most of the other prewaxes I've used. Cleaner Fluid is ok, Blackfires new one is ok, HD cleanse is blah...imo of course.

:dance

Question for you, Picus. How exactly are you using the GEPC? I have a bottle that I have yet to use, and I'm a little unsure of the application process. Are you simply working with a white or black/grey pad? Please advise. Thanks in advance.

:bigupsFantastic work as always, gents!

Hulk, I apply GEPC with a red pad on a PC at speed five. Work it until it's just about dry, then remove the residue with an MF.

Picus was the one that turned me on (*that* didn't sound right...) to GEPC. It really is good stuff.

What does the GE stand for in GEPC?

Nice job on all three, really love the blue Stingray.

Thank you, Scott. I appreciate that. The Stingray was more fun to work on and it attracted a lot of attention throughout the day. It was a respray and it was a little hard but it cleaned up beautifully. Even with M105 and PFW, it would look LSP ready under the halogens.

We applied using foam applicators and removal with clean microfibre towels. Apply it like it's wax.

As Tyler mentioned, I apply with a foam applicator until tacky, let sit ~10 min, remove. You could apply with a PC or rotary in the same fashion Bee mentioned.
