PB's 2.5, Hi-Temp Medium Cut On An XJR

Did this XJR over the weekend for a client who traded the car in today for something new. Since he was getting rid of it he wanted me to just tune it up a bit (his ex-wife has had the car the last several months and ran it through car washes) so I took it home and it gave me a chance to mess around with a few products.

I used both Poorboys 2.5, the new version of SSR 2, and Hi-Temps Medium Cut and my rotary. I used both with a white LC polishing pad and both at about 1200 rpm's

As expected they both did a great job. The 2.5 may have been slightly milder than the MC but the MC also dusted up slightly more than the 2.5 but not enough to be a real problem. I can't really recall which panels got the 2.5 treatment or the MC treatment but after either one of those I went over it with FP on my cyclo and then Hi-Temps Poly Spray to seal.

I used also DACP on a panel but saw no real big difference between it and the other 2.

I have a few BEFORE and "Almost AFTER" pics.....It was getting rather late by the time I was able to wax it so it would have been too dark to take pics. So I apologize for that....I also did the interior but that was pretty clean, just some dirty seats and lots of dog hair!

First pic is of the drivers door panel after being cleaned and then using FP and Plexus on the wood

Anthony- Interesting that the FP/Cyclo was enough after the H-TMC/rotary. I take it the H-T MC breaks down pretty well.

Do you find that the white pad and 1,200 is generally enough speed for the H-T MC? I keep ending up going faster with my 3M stuff (and using a cutting pad a lot of the time) and I'm not always comfortable with it...

Of course your work was great, per usual :xyxthumbs

Nice write up and comparison. Seems like you have several excellent medium grade products to chose from. Great before and after shots too.

What do you think of that white Jaguar leather and vinyl? Sure gets dirty fast, doesn't it? Cleans up pretty quickly and Jaguar carpeting is thick enough most stains stay at the surface. Pretty easy interiors to clean, despite the light color.

Yes it does break down well....BUT I forgot to mention, as I re-read my post, that I left out the IP STEP:doh my bad and thank you for bringing that to my attention

Scott,

Jag interiors always clean up nice......well as long as they aren't too far trashed! I like Jag interiors because they are very elegant looking and have a very rich feel to them.

Thanks for the compliments also,

Anthony

Anthony- OK, heh heh, I wondered how that Med-Cut could break down *that* much :D Still, it sounds like a good product. I just got some 3M PI-III Extra Cut RC (05936) and that stuff is like liquid sandpaper, so I might need something like the Hi-Temp- stronger than my usual products, but not *too* aggressive.

That sounds a lot like the 3m Super Duty RC, liquid sandpaepr indeed! You can see the abrasives in it. My Caddy can take it without much micromarring left behind even when viewed under all kinds of lighting conditions! It is very hard paint to say the least! On a very select few spots I used it and just followed with a light polish. On my old Maxima however, the stuff can cut through the paint in no time :scared:.

I use the Super Duty RC now primarily for combating corrosion staining on my mid exhaust pipe :D

Bill D- Yeah, I was surprised at how aggressive the Extra Cut seems to be. 3M doesn't rank it all *that* high (well below the Super Duty), but still...maybe I just need to play with it some more and get a feel for it :nixweiss Good thing I still have the Volvo around to play with; if I cut through *its* paint [shrug] it's just one more panel to get reshot sometime.
