Optimum Power Clean-didn't know it could do this

I got a call from a dealer's body shop. A service advisor delivering an X5 to a customer after service ran through some paint in the road. The dealer's body shop doesn't typically do overspray removal, instead farming it out to Paint Overspray Specialists (a nationwide franchise that pretty much only does overspray removal). However, he hasn't been able to get a call back from them for the last 6 months so I got a call from them requesting assistance.

After washing the side of the X5, claying was ripping right through the paint splatters, leading me to believe it was probably house paint instead of road paint. However, the clay really wasn't doing much to the trim, especially the trim under the doors. Using my thumbnail was slow go and wasn't getting it out of the pores.

The service manager of the body shop was already sure the trim would have to be replaced but I wasn't ready to give up. I liberally sprayed the trim with Optimum Power Clean, dipped a stiff plastic bristle brush into the ONR bucket and scrubed the area down. OPC tore through the paint very quickly and was even getting the paint out of the pores. On the side molding, I was able to simply spray a damp MF towel and using a little pressure, remove the paint. The service manager was so happy he insisted I add $50 to the bill I gave them. :)

Itd be interesting to know if another APC offering from a different company would have been as effective.

Scott, just going by what you remember of both products at separate times, would you say that OPC is stronger overall than Meg's APC and APC+?

Wow - I don't know what's more amazing? The product or Scott doing dealer work? :D

OPC looks like a good product. Does it work on tar too?

Never used Meguiars APC. No idea how well it works.

Dave-as long as a dealer is willing to pay my normal prices, I'll do the work. Basically, they were looking for someone to take care of the occasional overspray removal requests they get. Mostly going to be a referral deal, not necessarily doing work for them.

OPC seems to work on pretty much anything.

Great stuff! I just got a gallon of it based off a few others reviews. I've got a C350 with brakedust galore sitting in the garage that I begin working on tonight.

Cool - I'm just about out of my APC & I'll give it a try. Looks like good stuff.

Optimum Power Clean™ packs a powerful punch, yet it’s gentle when it needs to be. Clean everything from the engine and wheels to the leather and dashboard with one product! Optimum Power Clean™ can even be used on the paint to dissolve bugs and stubborn contaminants. For many jobs, you can simply spray it on and wipe it off.

Use full strength, Optimum Power Clean™ cleans and degreases the engine compartment, cleans tires, wheels, and wheel wells. This sophisticated formula dissolves bugs and powers through brake dust and oil to clean your vehicle’s dirtiest parts.

Dilute Power Clean™ up to 3:1 to safely clean leather, vinyl, paint, and plastics. Remove old dash dressings and tough residues from interior panels. Wipe away spills and spots from leather seats. Special polymers and emulsifiers break down contaminants with minimal agitation.

Directions:

To clean wheels and tires, Optimum Power Clean™ can be used at full strength or diluted up to 3:1. Agitate as needed and rinse off. For use on painted surfaces, dilute at 3:1 for best results. Spray on, agitate lightly and rinse. To clean interior panels, dilute at 3:1. Spray on, agitate, and wipe off. For leather, vinyl, or the dashboard, dilute at 3:1. Spray on and wipe off. For tougher grime and stains use at full strength.

Oh I sure will Jimmy. I've never come accross an APC(other than citris cleaners that I don't care for) that is efficient at removing tar in addition to the other uses. If this product in fact does remove tar, and can clean other surfaces quickly/easily, I'm sold. We'll see.....

I'd be interested to hear the results of this Dave. :)

hey scottwax i was always wondering how do you clean carpets so great like in your other threads, what tools do you use and supplies

I use BioKleen's Traffic Lane Cleaner, plastic bristle scrub brushes (sometime I use the Cyclo carpet brush attachment on my G110), microfiber towels and a wet/dry vac.
