I got a call from a dealer's body shop. A service advisor delivering an X5 to a customer after service ran through some paint in the road. The dealer's body shop doesn't typically do overspray removal, instead farming it out to Paint Overspray Specialists (a nationwide franchise that pretty much only does overspray removal). However, he hasn't been able to get a call back from them for the last 6 months so I got a call from them requesting assistance.
After washing the side of the X5, claying was ripping right through the paint splatters, leading me to believe it was probably house paint instead of road paint. However, the clay really wasn't doing much to the trim, especially the trim under the doors. Using my thumbnail was slow go and wasn't getting it out of the pores.
The service manager of the body shop was already sure the trim would have to be replaced but I wasn't ready to give up. I liberally sprayed the trim with Optimum Power Clean, dipped a stiff plastic bristle brush into the ONR bucket and scrubed the area down. OPC tore through the paint very quickly and was even getting the paint out of the pores. On the side molding, I was able to simply spray a damp MF towel and using a little pressure, remove the paint. The service manager was so happy he insisted I add $50 to the bill I gave them.
