Optimum polish

Anthony recommened this product so I thought I would try it. (he has never let me down) once again I must say it's a winner. Unbelieveable shine. It says to use a buffer so I used the DeWalt 443 DA with a white pad. Came out reflective, deep wet look, and a blinding shine. I'm going to St Louis this weekend and detailed my PT Cruiser (show car) for the event. I was impressed. see ya MOnday!!!!!!!!! p.s. Anthony if I win a troghy I will send you a pic!!!!!!!! Optimum Polish has been a big hit for me as well. I like how you can use it in the hot sun and just choose the pad to determine the cut you get.
 
Let me ask you guys, what do you think the limits are of Optimum polish? What I mean by that is, they only offer one polish vs. two or three that most other companies offer. Does this polish leave a LSP ready finish? How heavy can the oxidation/defects be before you need a more aggressive polish? I'm just curious.



Also, I know Optimum is coming out with their new compound for severe defects, but I'm still wondering how much you can knock out with just this one product.
 
Sounds like it has a pretty good corrective range when used with different application processes.

Removes heavy scuffs and scratches.

Does not leave swirls, if used with foam pads under 1500 RPM.

Will not splatter if used properly.

Will not cake or gum-up buffing pads.

Has an unlimited working time without drying or dusting.

Can be used to polish slick moldings, plastic trim and soft rubber moldings.

Eliminates the need for a second polishing step.

Completely body shop safe.



If anyone desires a polish trade (I have a cabinet full of most products). I would like to test a 2 oz sample. Optimum maybe a good Menzerna IP replacement. PM me. TIA

After getting great results on my less than a year old Black Audi A4 I asked myself the same question.



Well as it just so happens my neighbor has a 2001 Jaguar S-Type 3.0 (Black Metallic - gold flake paint) he got from Florida late last year which is in bad shape. So I figured that would be an ideal test subject for the Big O. Defects are the following...



Severe Swirl marks/cobb webs (Automatic Car wash and improper hand washing/waxing techniques)

Water Spots

Light to moderate scratches



This is a on-going project I started Monday and get to when he's not using the car and I have the time but I expect to finish it Saturday. I have film in the SLR of the before side and am getting some afters. Will post a full thread when I'm done



For a teaser I will say that with a LC Orange Pad (VC) and my Dewalt Rotary (849) I was able to remove all of the swirls and most of the scratches.



I could go to my Hi-Temp Line to get the water marks out but David from Optimum called me today and said that the Compound is ready for production and he's shipping me a sample (at my request).



All in all I can say that it's a medium to light polish that does work wonders and has a wonderful way of doing it. But no polish in that category is going to take the place of a compound when it's called for.
 
Having a closet full of polishes also, is it worth it to purchase the Optimum Polish for use with the PC only?
 
Great stuff indeed. I like using it with the rotary and a wool pad for defect removal, followed by the Cyclo to remove any buffer swirls and really make the paint glow.

I think we all have closets and garages full of detailing products. It's not a question of whether its worth it or not, but more of do you want to play with a new product or not. I probably have over a dozen polishes, sealants, glazes, and waxes here that I purchased, and still have yet to use, including a bottle of Optimum polish and spray sealant. :o



I'm sure you can get from point A to point B with any/all of the products you already have, but where's the fun in that? :chuckle:



Seriously though, it seems this is a very nice product that I'm sure you will find a place for, but just remember that the product is only a small part of the detail. The process is where you make a car really shine! :2thumbs:
 
just what I've been looking for :) thanks! I'm using a dw 443 also, and was still not sure if it'll turn out fine.
 
Well let me add this, Optimum has replaced Menzerna IP and FP in my tool box. It has also replaced Hi-Temp Light Cut and Medium Cut. It will cover the whole range of those products I just mentioned and it will also reach out to just touch the fringe of Menzerna PG.



So far the Opt Compound has done well for me so I now carry just the two Opt polishes and I have shelved the rest. If you are a professional detailer and wish to save money plus carry less wieght, this might be something to look into.

Yes. Works very well with the PC...and in fact, I was talking to David at Optimum about it and he said that Optimum and the PC would work great on the ceramic clear paints.

Has anybody tried it out on Ceramic Clear car yet? I would rather pay $13 than $50 for a bottle of polish to polish ceramic clear coasts...

If the dealer can't get the rotary swirls (after some paint and body work) on a customer's S500, I will be trying it out. Did a great job on the hard water stains on the Rolls I detail and on spider swirls on an Audi TT (and its rock hard paint!).
