Optimum Microfiber pads

I have one of the yellow foam backed MF cutting pads, works very well. I believe that Optimum is still trying to find the optimum pad stiffness, which is what seems to influence the amount of cut the pad has. I don't know if I have the final version or not but I do like the pad I have.

It’s been talked about before. It’s been tried before…..and failed. Similar textures have been tried and failed. But the NEW Optimum micro fiber pad is different….and better.

We have tested versions of his pad before and while previous samples were good; this one is finally what you have always been looking for. The deep pile micro fibers hold polish, wax or compound easily in the pad and distribute it very evenly over the paint surface while contouring to all the curves, pockets and valleys.

agree with that. I do find sometimes though that the microfibre pads on a rotary work well but create alot of heat and the polish film dissappears. any thoughts?

ADS has them. kinda wierd and not really my cup of tea, but it looks like they're carrying ag products now...

I need to get some. the megs ones are nice...cut like orange, but clean up so much easier and cleaner! if the optimum are better overall, then great, I think that chemical guys has some too dont they?

I have an order coming now. PM if you only need 1 or 2. I bought a few of each pad type and size. I'll have them officially for sale in a couple of weeks with a promo. Seriously, they are very, very good. Here is a link to a quick video I did- nothing fancy mind you.

It's the first video on my channel:

Using a 'stiffer' backing plate would increase the cut somewhat

Having used both, Optimum is far superior. David also assures me that his pads are many times more durable. After five rinse/washes, the finishing pad is still very plush and the foam is just fine. No warping from heat with Flex at speed 5.

Far superior is a stretch IMO. They do run cooler, I'll agree with that, but I haven't seen anything yet that makes them "superior". FWIW I'm still using the earlier version of the pads so maybe the new ones offer something more. My pads also "potato chipped" after the first go on the GG6, just like Surbuf pads do. Not that it effects their use in anyway.

Fair response. I guess I am referring to my own experience. I like Jason Rose and the Megs. guys just fine. I just did not get the same results with the MF system on the same car with the same polisher. Also, my Megs. pads warped and "clodded" (new term?).

I know several exceptional detailers (far superior to me) that use the mf system all week long and if it did not work, they would not use this system.

I think I was just so excited personally that I made a hyperbole (exaggeration). However, I do feel they are better and will be a very good pad vs. the Megs. mf pads.

LOL, it's all good. I do really like the Opt finishing pads so far, especially with Hyper Polish, but I also love the Megs cutting pads and have had zero issues with them. :)

I want to try these out but I missed the boat on the whole MF pads and KB method of priming pads. Apparently you have to prime these pads and I can see me messing something up and not having them work the way they are supposed to.

My friend had 2 separate today. He was on Flex, speed 3, with polish (compound pads). Polishing pads were fine.

I was told that if you go too slowly (speed) that this can happen. I have not had problems, but he had 2 pads do this today- MF separate from foam, not foam from backing plate.

I told him to work his Megs. DA with the same process. He is going to email me tonight and let me know if there was a difference. I know that DRC pads are coming out with a newer foam version because they had trouble with some pads separating- Flex only.

Before the KBM, folks were putting dots or stripes of product to the pad or the surface being worked on, and the polishing still managed to get done. That said, the few times Ive used this method (or slight variations thereof) worked a lot better for me than any other means of application. Once acclimated, it becomes a very practical solution; not just for mf pads, but for any other pads such as foams or even wools.

I'm sure it would help, I am one who still uses a few drops per section to polish. I fear I will over saturate the pad by priming incorrectly. I placed an order for a cutting and polishing MF from Opt since I had to get other things tonight. I will try it out and see how it goes.
