Ah, I have a soft spot for K9 handlers as I've been kinda active in the Working Dog scene from time to time. What breed was your partner? What became of him/her when you left? What kind of vehicle did you use for K9s? I know, lots of questions :o

That's great that they got a good vacuum! I'm a little surprised that you were able to sell 'em on that.

EDIT: If I'm being too nosy-civilian just blow my Qs off and I'll understand, no hard feelings...
 
I had an imported Czech Shepherd as my partner, I ended up keeping him when I went out on disability. As for my car, I had a Crown Vic at the Departments i worked at, one Chief was a straight Ford fan, the other department hadn't switched over to Chargers yet.


As for selling the Chief, you had to make it seem like it was his idea before he would buy into anything :)

parttimer- Thanks for posting the pic, looks like a beauty and it's great that you got to keep him. Yeah, the Czechs breed some good GSDs (our female was from there). And IMO the Crown Vics make for good dogcars, even without a cage in the back.

Planning on finally starting college again next semester, even if it's only one course. Now, what do I want to be when I grow up?

I work with rare books and manuscripts at a university library; sort of a combination of curator and librarian.

But my dad worked for Verizon (Bell of PA) his entire career, so I grew up hearing POTS, DSL, "Crossbar" and other phone company acronyms. I remember going into the "C.O.s" as a kid when they still had those menchanical stepper switches, and they had a distinct sound, especially the bigger offices with entire rooms of those things. Like thousands of pistols being cocked or something, continuously and all all at the same time. He would also "start the Diesels," which were huge backup generators in the basements of these offices, I guess to back up the 48 volts or whatever it was for the phone service. Then there were tons of racks of these batteries. To me as a kid they seemed like 36" tall and about 12" around, and clear, so you could see the liquid inside.
