I'm nervous about what shop to use also, cause I don't want a half-*** job, ya know? It's a '02 bmw 330i with silver metallic paint.....i don't know if metallic paint must be treated special, etc. Thanks for anyones help.

P.S. The pictures are so/so. I can take better ones if need be. again, thanks.

Yeah, try hitting it with something by hand before you spend the money on a new paint job. Just give it a shot, It' might make it less visible or eliminate it. And welcome to the forum.

Thanks guys. Yeah, i'm going to try the meiguers stuff. I'm just nervous/scared cause i'm REALLY new to this stuff. I do have a rotoray buffer, but I'm still nervous that I could screw up my car further. Would I need a new paint-job all around for a scratch like that? or just a "local" paint job in that area that was scratched? Also, where can I buy this stuff? It's not carried at Walmart of the likes. Are there other stores I should look at/try?

If you can feel it with a finger nail, I've got bad news.. You need to touch it up.

The best kit out so far for non-pro application has been from Paintscratch.com. Just had one of our neighbors start the repairs on his Dodge pick-up that got scratches.

Kit has both color and clear-coat pens and a rubbing compound.

In the mean time, try some DACP witha small 100% cotton terry towel over the area. Wipe untill it powders, then remove. If it's still there, but not as bad, try again one more time. You could also step up to a real cutting cleaner as well.

If you do not have DACP and only need a small amount, send me a PM and I'll send you an 8oz squeeze bottle of some.

Deanski,

You are the man! Wow, thanks. I'm going to look into everything you said tommorrow. If I need that 8oz bottle, I'll PM ya. And let me know if I need to re-emburse you (spelling?) in anyway (shipping, etc.). Thanks again man. When I figure out what DACP is, I'll probabley just use that till i can afford a professinal touch up, depending on the price. I'm just scared now that water may get in through the scratch and start to try and rust. Want to protect against that ASAP.

Figured out what DACP is...did a search. Thanks again.

DACP = (Dual Action Cleaner Polish) DavidB has an article on scratch removal, should give you some ideas

~Hope this helps~

And avoid using that rotary buffer unless you really know what you're doing. You very well could end up doing more damage.

Make sure you have some quality (microfiber) towels around when you try whichever product you decide on.

Wow, read David's article on scratch removal. Wonderful outcome...but I'm nervous about doing it myself with the wet-sanding. . May have to take the plunge though. We'll see. Sheesh, I had no idea detailing was so complicated/artistic. I'm now double-checking and rethinking my cleaning products.

Souvent,

Your DACP and I also included some #82 SFP are on it's way via USPS Express Mail! These are 8oz squeeze bottles.

Check your PM... I sent you the tracking number.

Enjoy and let's hope you get this damage out!

Oh CRAP!

I was also supposed to include a nice MF for you, but it's still here... My bad!

Well, just let us know how you do with the problem. You should have enough now to do the entire car if you choose to!!

Always willing to assist.

First and foremost,

I must thank a member "Dino" here.

I came here knowing nothing and asking for help with a scratch. Dino not only offered help; he overnighted supplies to me, including detailed instructions, and has kept in touch to see how it was going and if I needed more help. I don't even get service this good at my BMW dealership. I can't say enough about this forum or Dino. I hope that I can one-day return the favor to him or anyone else that needs help. A simple package has made a WORLD of difference. Thanks.

Glad I could help!:xyxthumbs

Now that you have the DACP and SFP I sent you, it should help in resolving the problem.

You also should have enough to do the whole car if you choose to. I would just use the DACP on the defect, and the SFP on the finish to remove any slight cobwebs or swirls. If the cobwebs/swirls do not come out with one panle and SFP, then go to DACP.

Remember to wash, clay and quick wash again to remove any clay debris, then start your polishing.

You will find we are all here to help those in need of assistance.

I sent you the link to the scratch/chip repair and it may have to come to that. Don't be intimidated by the info, as it's not that bad!

Enjoy the DACP and SFP!

Dean,

Thanks, yeah, I'm going to take this Thrusday I think, and just spend the day on the roof to see how it works, and then perhaps the car.

I read and looked over the info, and I must admit that I'm a little nervous about wet-sanding and chip-repair...but with a place like this...I suddenly feel relaxed about doing them. :).

Again, you're awsome. Thanks. I'll keep you posted.
