new (to me) vehicle, frame has lots of sand in it. Advice needed

wolfe- I`m debating this one myself! Approaches I`m considering:

Remove/reduce any corrosion chemically (RustBullet Metal Blast) and then:

-Clearcoat with KBS Diamond Finish
-Paint with KBS RustSeal in Galvanized Steel color (watch you don`t paint them in place, might not get `em apart again!)
-Coat with Amsoil Heavy Duty Metal Preserver (threads, not as messy/dirt-attracting as many such products)
-Coat with the Eastwood Black HDAR

The Crown Vic has some galvanized bits (balljoints/etc.) that were surprisingly corroded. They don`t show but, well you know..I cleaned the corrosion off with the MetalBlast, not letting it dwell long enough to eat away the remaining galvanizing. I`m coating with the Amsoil. It has some exposed bolt heads/threads too. The threads will get the Amsoil, the heads will get the Diamond Clear once I`m sure I won`t be taking them apart (won`t paint them in place but don`t want to worry about a wrench compromising the clear). OR...I`ll just spray the Black HDAR over all such stuff and never think about it again, just touch it up if I disassemble. See, I don`t even know what I`ll do on my own project!

Thanks! I know the feeling, seems like there isn`t one single `right` way to approach this. I have next to no knowledge of these specialist products though, so any info and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Hadn`t thought about the clearcoat, that may work best for me depending on how well the evaporust cleans everything up. Haven`t used it before.

I`ll post up some pics when I get a bit further along.

wolfe- Yeah, definitely a few different approaches that`ll all work.

Only thing I`ll repeat/stress is that fasteners/etc. that might need to come apart later shouldn`t be "painted over/in place". Usually easy enough to bust through the paint (which then chips back away from where the fastener was, requiring redo), but not always and it`s just a big hassle. With something like the Eastwood Black HDAR or Amsoil HDMP you can just clean it off with a solvent and then reapply after reassembly, only takes a moment to do both steps. When I catch myself getting all Autopian about undercar fasteners I try to dial it back and consider whether either of those two products will do the job.
