hi guys, I just registered today and I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can about keeping my baby looking clean. I picked up a 2006 Daytona Blue 350Z enthusiast last month and it needs a wash badly due to the rain this past weekend in southern california. Looking forward to chatting with you guys. :getdown

Welcome! Did they change the wheels for this model year? I like the ones you have better than others I've seen.

thanks for the compliments everyone!

Mikeyc- yes they upgraded the stock wheels for all models except track and grand touring to 18" instead of 17" on previous years. they actually were on the 35th anniv models for 2005. the grand touring and track now have a staggered setup w/ 19" in the rear and 18" in the front by rays engineering.

Pats300zx- Nice Z! I tried clicking on the link in your sig but it didn't work. are you a member on my350z?

Thanks to everyone else!

So bay Im not far from you at all, work in culver city..u know the big studio there. Here's a tip to make your learning curve a bit more flat. drive your car over to the chemical guys place and have them take a look at your car and the condition of your paint, they will recommend some excellent products.

chemical guys (CG) is over in Englewood off century between crenshaw and prairie - that shouldnt be far from you at all. They're open to visitors MON, Wed & THRs. they are all very cool guys. It's not really a retail store, more their offices and warehouse but they will take care of you. When you get in the biz park they are in, drive ALL the way towards the back, they are on the right hand side.

go to chemical guys dot com to check them out

Ohh and look into buying a PC (porter cable) DA (dual action) polisher - a huge time saver for polishing, glazing etc etc. Buying a PC was like taking a first hit of crack....i was hooked. now im buying products just to try them, i dont even need the stuff i just read about new stuff and there i go spending $$$ again.

later

Beautiful car! I love those new wheels and that color. You're at the right place to learn how to keep the paint in tip top shape. That Nissan paint sure does chip easily :( You might look into a clear bra for the front end.

wow! everyone is so cool here, thanks again for the compliments! I've been checking out a lot of people's rides on here and they are just astounding!

hope you guys will have patience with me as I will probably be asking A LOT of questions. I feel like a total newb when it comes to washing my car. Right now I live in an apartment, but I have a subterranean parking setup with my own locker. For washing my car, I've been going to the coin-op wash to use the nozzle and I know better than to use the foam brush :nono. I bought those yellow microfiber towels from costco and I use those to spread the soap around the car with the high pressure soap. Then I do a high pressure rinse, and follow it with a final rinse (to minimize water spots). Then I use a california water blade to get most of the water off, usually the windows, hood, roof. And then I use more of those MF towels to dry the rest. I made the mistake of buying an absorber before I did a search on here and I read a lot of negative experiences with those. I also felt a little iffy when I used mine for the first time. Plus I got jipped because I bought it from a boat supply store, the same place where I picked up my aero 303 protectant, and they charged me 20 bucks for the absorber!! I later found out that it's half that price. Now after doing some research on here I learned about the WW MF towels that everyone is talking about. I found a lot of posts on here regarding brands like sonus and pakshak. anyways, I was thinking about going the zaino route. The only thing that's stopping me is buying the right drying/polishing towel. A local zaino dealer also supplies martex atelier and df concours. Should I just buy those?

MrLEXUS2u- Hey I know exactly which studio you're talking about! :D I actually want to get tickets for a taping of king of queens because my gf and I love that show. Thanks for the heads up about the chemical guys, these guys seem hardcore and seem to know their stuff. That PC you're talking about is something I'd be interested in doing later (I love gadgets and tools!).

BlackSunshine- Haha, funny you mentioned the clearbra. I'm already ahead of the game and got full frontal coverage (i.e.- hood, fenders, bumper, headlights, mirrors) right after I bought it. I am worred though that when I do my claying/waxing, that the clay/wax will get stuck in the edges and corners of the clearbra. I'm not looking forward to that and I'm hoping I can learn about some techniques people that have clearbra have done. Right now I'm thinking it will be a pain!

White95Max- Thanks man, I remember reading your thread from a search about how you bought your protege and basically brought it back to life. I just wanted to give you props for that one :xyxthumbs

Wangatang- hey fellow Z'er!

Rather than going to the coin-op wash, look into QEW instead. http://www.protectall.com/qelong.aspx

I live in an apartment too, with a detached garage. QEW is a lifesaver for me, even when I have to wash a week's worth of dried salt off. (did it yesterday) :(

Thanks! This sounds like exactly what I need. Maybe I'll pick some up today. Do you recommend using this with a mitt of some sort?

Some people use it with mitts. I use it with MF towels instead. I find them to work better than mitts.

I've gotten a ton of PMs about my use of MFs with QEW. I'll have to make a write-up of my own. N2_space and Mosca did a couple of write-ups on QEW using mitts.

I couldn't find n2_space's writeup, so you'll have to do a search for QEW or something and see if you can find it.
