I'm looking for a decent shop vac to help me out w/ some mobile detailing. Will a 1.5 HP do me ANY good? I need something I can clean wet carpets with, etc.

so far i'm looking at these:

^ I like the wallmount one cause it's pretty small and still 5HP

i figure this one isn't any good

EDIT: LINKS FIXED

I need something fairly small as I'm gonna have it in the trunk of my CL. Right now the wallmount one is what i'm leaning towards.

Your links aren't working, Sears is a pain to link too.

I've got a wall mount vac. It's made by Shop-Vac (although Sears sells them under the Craftsman label now). Mine is 4.5HP, and came with a 21' hose and attachments. I like it. The other vacs were big, bulky and heavy. Also a pain in the butt to store when not in use.

I don't know about the vacs that you posted as the links don't work, but the vac that Home Depot Sells from RIGID is 5.0 hp and as small as many vacs that are 2 hp. Definately a good investment and a great deal at $60 or so. I'm REALLY happy with it. Plus RIGID has a lifetime warranty.

Yep, this one is similar to mine. Mine is yellow instead of Red, though. Sears started selling them under the Craftsman name, but they are still made by Shop-Vac.

I really like mine, and I've had no trouble with it. It also works good for sucking water out of carpets, etc.

Thanks Brad, on my way to buy it before it closes, last day on sale :)

Any attachments you recommend I pick up, or are what's provided good?

Just a thought...

I've been through a few Shopvacs, and the overall experience has been fine. We recently 'blew' #1, and #2 (smaller, older) is having trouble 'picking up the load' (Lord, I hate puns!).

On Tuesday (7/13/04) I should receive the Fein 9-11-20 Mini-Turbo Vacuum from CoastalTool.co

I bought it because I have their rotary (WOW!) and I believe that you get what you pay for, particularly with tools for the 'production' shop.

Your decision may be quite appropriate for your use...

Looks like a nice vac, Jimmy, but it's probably over kill for us garage warriors. :)

I've had my shop-vac for close to 2 years, and use it probably 4 or 5 times a week vac'ing out my own cars and others. Never had an issue.

Brad, your point is well taken, and well founded.

I'll post my observations of the Fein Vac in a week or so...

As you know, many of us just like tools...

BTW, I just got my Cyclo, and it may go back... what's the big deal with that tool?

Ramblin...

I think it must be an acquired taste or something. I used one about 8 months ago, and I didn't really care for it either. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I got a vac from Home Depot that is excellent.

rigid 4 gallon, 4.5 hp. I think its very quiet (for a vacuum). Its portable (no wheels or anything on it... which is actually good because it fits in smaller spaces).

there are a lot of small portable vacuums, but they also lack power and can be very noisy. This one is pretty small too, but it wasn't built poorly.

I just sucked up my whole hot tub worth of water with our 12 gallon 4.5 hp rigid. Only had to unplug the drain thing and it worked great.

I think the little one has the same motor as the big one, and I've gotta agree the thing is REALLY quiet for what it is capable of. My last shop vac (1hpX1gal) sounded like an f-14 taking off. I can use my rigid in close proximity and still hear someone talking to me.

i have the exact same one.

can't be Rigid quality+life time warranty :up

it's 12 gallons though, but not too bulky.

Not sure about other vacs, but with the rigid, I can take the hose and attach it to the other end of the vac and then it turns into a leaf-blower :D

hrm..wonder if i can dry a car with the blower

drying the car with the blower isd not unheard of :D

I just picked up the 5.0pk hp rigid and I love it! It fits very nicely in the trunk of my car and it has great suction power! A lot better than my craftsman.
