My Vintage Experience...

Wow looks VERY nice :) How about a sample? I kid, I kid :) Now, comes the question, do you think the price tag is justified? Im sure it's a great wax, but how would you compare it to "lesser waxes" like Pinnacle Souveran (funny im calling Souveran a "lesser wax"). IE is there a distiguishable difference between the two?

Either way, it's neat to see someone actually drop the coin and buy some of this stuff. What's next, the Royale? ;)

Btw thanks again for helping me out! Cant' wait to try my new toy.

It's my pleasure, man.. I really think you're going to have fun with it.

The jury is still out on whether or not the price was justified. Does it look good? Yeah, it does, but honestly I don't think it looks significantly better than Z2. It does have the warmness and depth of carnauba, and about the best shine I've seen from a wax (not that I've tried that many).

The final decision is going to take time; I need to see how durable this stuff is, and how hard/easy it is to clean.

Will it last four months?

Will it clean using only a BHB and my foam gun? This one is huge for me. If it's as hard to clean as Zaino is, I'll consider it an $1,800 toilet flush.

Will the shine hold up during that time?

If the answer to all of those is yes, then I think it will be worth it, since I never have to buy the stuff again. If it does pass all the tests, then maybe I'll call up Zymol and ask if they have any kind of a trade-up program for the Royale... at least maybe ask for a sample. :P

Anyone know how long I need to wait before applying another layer? Is it 24 hours, or in this heat (it's about 85 outside, 95 in the garage) can I apply the second layer sooner? I'd like to get after it as soon as I can, cause I haven't driven the car yet, and could still apply the second layer without having to wash the car.

Edit: I forgot to respond to the Souveran question... I've only seen pictures of Souveran; I've never used it. I really doubt that the Vintage looks noticeably better than the Souveran.

The wheels don't look bad from a distance. Got any close-up shots showing the damage?

I tried to take a few, but my camera just isn't capable of showing the swirls. They look just like swirled clear coat. I'll try and get rid of the brake dust enough that I can try for a halogen reflection swirl shot. I'm totally clueless about what to use on them.

looks great...but i did see a tag violation on the towel your vintage was sitting on. shaaaaaaaame!!!!! lol :)

:shocked Oh, I'm soo busted. Brand new MF towel I bought specifically to remove the Zymol, and I forgot about the tag. At least I didn't hear that noise you hear when your paint reminds you that you forgot to remove the freaking tag.

Why in yur opinion is zaino hard to clean?

If the clear coat on my car is completely bare, I can clean it with nothing more than a pressure washer. No touching at all. Yet with a few coats of Zaino on it (please note that Zaino has been my primary LSP for the last two years), dirt/grime/dust/water spots just seem to adhere to the surface like crazy. Not only will it not come clean with just a pressure spray, a boar's hair brush is unable to touch it, too. It's a mitt or nothing when Zaino is on the clear.

I did this experiment yesterday and the day before... My car and my wife's Sequoia, each equally dirty after a thunderstorm. My car = no LSP. Clear coat completely naked. Wife car = 3 coats of Z2.

Wash process was identical. Spray, Foam, Spray, examine, Foam, BHB, Spray, dry with WW.

My car was almost completely clean after the first foam, and completely clean after the BHB. Wife's car was almost every bit as dirty afterwards as it was to start. The BHB was unable to even touch the dirt stuck to the Zaino. I ended up having to wash it again with a mitt. I get exactly the same results with my car when it's wearing Zaino.

Zaino is one of those LSP's that love to hang on to whatever they can.

Brandt,

You can start layering within a few hours actually(and that's being generous). Unlike Zaino or other sealants, you don't' have the same "cure time" as you do with a paste like Vintage.

Rather than wait before applying several layers, you might actually want to consider trying a technique called "spit shining". IE building up several layers all at once. Given the nature of Vintage, you shouldn't have a problem doing this (ie low solvent).

Read up about the "spit shine technique" here:

I've used it in the past with great success when layering Souveran and NB.

very interesting i too have used zaino before and am actually going back to it on my mdx, tho I have not experienced that happening but now I will look for it when i wash the car.

I always use ONR tho and microfiber bone sponge so i am used to using things on the paint.

Is it just me or did u use a lot of wax for just one coat? I have used souveran and havent even dented the container.

Wow.. great stuff, thanks man... I gotta try that. Honestly, I was hoping that the Vintage would look better than it does. Maybe there's still hope.

Yup, I used waaaay too much. I could have gotten away with using much less. Keep in mind that i did apply it to everything but the front clip. Even the windows. It's also a very big car. Almost as big as a 700 series bmw.

Guys and ladies, Vintaaaaghhe and the other zymols are rare animals. I would advise against caking too many layers at one time. The best relationship with the color will happen with just one or two layers of the zymol. You will need to let the wax cure at least a day b4 applying anymore. I will tell you from experience, that zymol reacts best when it gets a little old (at least one week and up to 4 or more depending on how dry you can get the car to remain). When you S_L_O_W_L_Y accumulate 3-6 (six is my magic number) layers of any EGZ and of course Vintaaaaghe, you will have more depth of shine and reflectivity than you will know what to do with. You want to avoid any signs of hazing or greasinesss. A well developed zymol should shimmer like still water, and any sign of haze or grease (from hasty build-ups of wax layers) is not an acceptable alternative IMO. It should be deeeeep, cleeeeeen, and cleeeeeeaaaar.

If you allow yourself patience and distance between the wax cakes, you will find that you can go well beyond the recommended dosage (zymol says up to 5 b4 re-cleaning). You will need to occasionally service the paint with a wax friendly washing and a carnauba based but very mild QD that cleans as well as enhances.

Edit: Missed the yellow Charger pics. Very nice start!!! The wax somehow gets consumed, so don't worry about using too much. Apply Vintage exactly like they recommend....via the hand.

I reading correctly you paid 1,800 for a car wax? Gee I truly hope you get your money's worth.

He should, it is refillable for life for free. Enjoy your Vintage. Zymol is excellent.

Well the Vintage is not a very consumer friendly product as it can be time consuming to apply. Be sure to us a carnauba friendly wash and it should last a few months. I find myself applying a new layer atleast once a month so I really don't know how long it lasts. Still looks good after no applications for 3 months in the winter with salt here.

To answer your question, wait 1 week before applying another layer. I find it looks deepest that way. Do it sooner, and it SEEMS to get a littly cloudy as you add more layers.

I wondered about a Royale trade up also, I just hate to think what shipping would cost with that container that's twice as heavy. I also wondered if it really mattered what tint I got it since I would use it on several different colored cars. Or maybe I should just drop 14 G's on Solaris? Oh well, I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

Enjoy your Vintage, it is a fantastic product!
