Well I never post any of my work, but I'll start posting up some of this for my own personal vehicle. It's a 91 Nissan Skyline GTS-T TypeM. The interior was pretty nasty. It was just imported from Japan, and obviously the fellow who owned it over there was a smoker. When it came out of the shipping container it reaked like cigarettes inside! :aww:

I previously posted my "Ultimate" Detailing regime that this car will be getting. It's just an outline of basically everything I'll be doing to it.

http://autopia.org/forum/showthread.php?t=67904

This weekend was the INTERIOR. This included a full steam clean and interior cleaning / dressing. This was the plan / products used.

For Steaming Interior Carpets / Upholstery

Bissell Little Green Cleaning Machine (Non-Heated / Turbo version)

Shark High Temperature Professional Steamer (w/ Upholsterly Attachment)

Diluted Oxyclean

Generic Bissell Upholstery Cleaner

Elbow Grease :)

Interior Cleaning / Dressing

Heavily Diluted Oxyclean

MrClean Magic Eraser(s)

Misc Interior Brushes for Vents

Stoners Invisible Glass w/ Newspaper for Interior Glass.

303 Aerospace Protectant.

Megs NXT Interior Protectant.

Basically I started by removing the ENTIRE interior. With the interior out I could get into the tougher spots easily and work on removing the smoke smell. I started by completely steaming and extracting the headliner. Being that smoke rises, the headliner was pretty gross. After I was done with it, however, it looked pretty damn clean and smelt pretty good!

After cleaning up the dash it got 2 types of dressings. I like using the Aerospace on the larger part of the dash (has a satin look to it) and then the glossier NXT on some of the smaller pieces.

NEWHO, Here are some pics of the progress for the interior. This weekend I'll be doing a FULL multi-stage cutpolish on her, so be prepared for that. I've also done a little work on the engine bay, however it's no where near ready to post :)

Newho I'll update this thread with the cutpolish pics next weekend!! :ca

Can you give me a model number or something of that Shark steamer? I see there are a few models. The EP923 model seems like the big one, but maybe there is something different. I'm in the market for a decent steamer, so I'd love to check those out!

The model # for the steamer Im using is "Model No. EP923F" It's the portable one. It cost me $220 when I bought it.

I really like it, I use it for doing my engine bay, interiors and even household stuff. Comes with floor attachments, carpet attachments and concentrator attachments for nooks n crannies. It's a really solid machine and doens't feel cheap at all.

That looks great, the stench of smoke is pretty normal. We have imported 3xR33's and an R34 and a Stagea, also a Supra, and they have always reeked of cigarette smoke. But usually after a good clean they are fine.

The big thing we found, was the A/C systems usually trap alot of the smell, they need to be cleaned as a rule.

Great transformation, you have a great foundation for a sensational car there.

Yah that's the one thing I havent' cleaned yet is the AC System. Im looking for a spray product that I can bomb down the vents. I'll also be replacing any filters they have for the AC system as well....

You fellas definitly got it good down there. We can't legally import a skyline until it's 15 Years or older. Down there you fellas can get R33's and 34's :bow :bow It's nice now though, as prices for these cars have dropped a little since CA and AUS are no longer competing for R32s.

I love being able to buy an R33 for $12,000 :) I guess we do have it good :bow :bow

Check out www.topoftheline.com. They have an odor removal section which has odor bumbs for vehicles. I have used these on previously smoked in vehicles with good results. The other option is to rent an ozone machine or find someone who will let you borrow theirs...

I think it turned out quite well :)

I'll be doing updating this thread again next week with the cutpolish pics...Then it's photoshoot time!

Some of the tools / products I used:

-Shark Hi-Temp Professional Steamer (awesome for getting those nooks n crannies w/ extender attachement)

-Misc Brushes

-Castrol Superclean (very harsh)

-Generic Heavy Duty Degreaser

-NeverDull (prelubed metal polish)

-Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish

-Aerospace 303 Protectant

-Stoners Trim Dressing

Total time was about 4 hours.

Well I finished the exterior detail this weekend. What a LONG process. But it came out well...

My Process looked like this:

Dawn Wash

Clay using Pinnacle Poly Clay

Wash Again (had so much residue that a rinse wouldn't do)

Complete Pass using SFX1 on DAS Orange Pad

Complete Pass using SFX2 on DAS Green PAd.

Complete Pass using AIO on DAS Blue Pad

2 LAyers of Menzerna FMJ

I plan on topping with S100 this weekend, just need to pick up a jar.

You definitly get your fair share of attention in the car, that's for sure. Most people don't knwo it for what it is, they just see the RHD thing and are intrigued by that I guess. I don't mind the attention, I just usually up the toons and look ahead at lights. You get the odd person that knows what the car is and gives you a thumbs up or something....It's fun to drive though :)

UPDATE:

Over the course of the weekend I attended a local car show and met up with a couple of other skyline owners. So of course we had to have a photoshoot done! One of my friends, and Autopian (metal) was there to snaps some pics of our cars! Newho, here they are!!

BTW: I topped the car with another coat of FMJ and topped w/ S100. Unfortunatly I was parked in a dusty parking lot for part of the afternoon it's not as shiney as it COULD have been..

Thanks again metal for snapping these AWESOME pics!
