My new toy, more of the Z06, plus M3, G35, STS, F-bird, Cavalier

What change in pricing? As far as I can see it is still the same price it has been for the past year. I am I looking in the wrong place?

Thanks

No black cars on concrete in the blazing sun this time, makes a difference. Believe me, I have seen a lot of digital shots with a washed out background when shooting dark cars posted here too, it isn't just a print film problem.... ;)

Steve-just for carpet cleaning ability alone, it is almost worth spending the money on a Cyclo. If you are having problems with melting backing plates, try the 6" one from excel detail. I've had mine several months now and not even a hint of melting.

I sent it into Porter Cable, and they replaced my 5 inch one with a 6 inch factory hook and loop style. We'll see how that one works out. I'm still going to ask them why it's melting though... :down

Scott, you said to check Excel for 6" pads, and I believe all they sell is 7". Ive been looking for 6" for a while now and cannot seem to find any lol.

I paid $212 for mine through my local Optimum distibutor. There is no more $299 fixed pricing. Distributors are free to set their own prices.

evenflow-I am talking about the 6" backing plate, sorry I wasn't more clear.

The M3 looks fabulous  and also congrat on your new toy, the cyclo machine. Now I can start to learn some new tips from you on using the cyclo machine :grinno: . Btw do you think it is advisable to change the backing plate of the cyclo machine to the 3.5" plate sold at Danase or Exceldetail.

They all look incredible! I love the M3( I dont know how he pays for the M and doesnt drive it)!

How aggresive is the cyclo vs the PC ? I have rotary also, but I always like to try new things so I was looking at this or the cyclo.

IMO, the Makita will blow that Cyclo away!!! If your going to spend a few hundred $$$ why not purchase the best?

The RED badge of honor!!!

Wow, looks like you've been pretty busy lately.

All the cars look awesome. (Love the Z06!!)

Good luck wth the new Cyclo.

Scott, as usual, the cars clearly have your touch!

Congrats on the 'big move' to the Cyclo!

I'm gonna add a few comments on 'the other side', relative to the value of the Cyclo.

We have four PCs, six rotaries, and two Cyclos. I like to think we are fairly adept at using all three tools. We have sold one Cyclo, and relegated the other to permanent attachment to carpet brushes. It does important, and efficient, work in that area.

Our opinion is that the Cyclo is a very good, well built machine that has abilities that may surpass those of the PC. But, in our volume shop, the combination of rotary and/or PC (and a wide assortment of pads and polishes) gets the job done. There is simply no need for an 'in between' machine. To paraphrase Mike Phillips, "I've never seen a car where I said only a Cyclo will fix that."

It is a good machine (now reasonably priced), just no need in our shop.

Scott, be sure to let us know how well it fits your regimin (because I'm sure that it will!)

Jim

Scott - the cars look good. I can only imagine how good it must feel moving up to a cyclo after all these years. It took me 6 months doing this professionally to move to a rotary. I can't wait to see your results now!!

As always Scott your detailing scream perfection plus having your sons help you out is awesome...and congrats on the Cyclo what brand of pads did you go with unless its already been discussed? by the way the price you got was nice cause i called up cyclo direct and they wanted $399 new and they sell recon for $299 no thank you!! haha

JimmyB-out of all those tools you said you have in your showroom shop more specficly your fein polisher you have correct me if im wrong, how has it served you, if i remeber you had to get the polisher serviced, was it minor or major, and do you regret this rotary to other(reason i was told this polisher is more for boats)

Sorry Scott not trying to hijack this thread, should it cause any problems please advise and i shall remove Thanks

The main advantages are that the Cyclo doesn't bog down, covers a larger area at a time, has a lot less vibration and once you get use to it, at least as easy to handle. It is more aggressive than a PC, kind of hard to quantify though. On paint with light to moderate defects, it is probably enough to bypass the rotary and all the taping off of trim, etc. Heavy defects, it ought to be faster than a PC but still no match for the rotary.

Money well spent. ;)

Jim-It will probably take a few weeks to really get a feel for where the Cyclo will ultimately fit into my business. Definitely incredible on carpets! Faster than the PC so far, still haven't used it on anything really nasty though. I know from borrowing a Cyclo about 18 months ago that some products, like #80 Speed Glaze and AIO (and I suspect, Prime as well) work better with the PC. However, with Optimum products and DACP, I give the edge to the Cyclo. Plus the Cyclo can cover larger areas more quickly than the PC and I do a lot of full sized SUVs. I suspect eventually I will have to break down and get a rotary too but probably use that only when a Cyclo won't be aggressive or fast enough as the rotary. Plus, with my kids helping me now, it is nice to have an extra buffer.

darin925-currently, I am using an 8:1 ratio.

Djmigs-currently, I only have the Cyclo pads, however, the man who posted below you might be getting an order for Propel's 4" pads. ;)

I really wish Meguiars would consider making 4" pads...

Nice job on all the rides. Of course I am biased towards the M3. Congrats on the cyclo. As always excellent work! :2thumbs:

I don't understand how you can work directly in the sun, especially if you're in Texas. I spent hours doing my first detail and my face was dripping constantly under the carport.

Then again, you're in Arlington and I'm in Houston.
