My Black Audi Detail

Topnotch, Thank You sir and no, I havent replaced the Camaro yet. I am happy to say (especially in this thread) that I am looking at a new A4 . Ive always loved the look of the A4 :) I should be heading down to the big city soon to go Audi shopping ..

you wont regret it. I too had a Z28 it was a 94 though and it is a world of difference. One thing though, dont expect it to be fast unless you mod a bit here and there.

It's a joy owning one minus the inconvenience ( at times) of removing minor defects in the hard clear

The clear is hard, i find myself using my rotary more now that the car is older and there are more surface corrections. I have tried so many polishes and final polish is always the best. When I really have to solve a problem though I have used the intensive time to time.

I do hang at AW (Roch_Ultrasport) and I feel your pain. I felt the same way after detailing my car on Saturday. Drove it to the mall on sunday and the car looked the same way once I got there.

One thing I learned about Black Cars is that you can go crazy over trying to keep them clean.

I just keep the paint sealed and waxed. That way a quick rinse or wash keeps them looking good between details.

I spent 7 years living in Hawaii, and while it was easier to keep the car clean, the salt in the air from the ocean water would rot cars out as quick if not quicker than up here with our winters.

Yeah, another Audi on autopia!:up 1.8T or 3.0? You'll love it but as topnotch said, don't expect it to be fast, actually w/o minor mods it'll lose to minivans!:( Be aware that the A4 is being redesigned (for better or worse) for '06. Sorry for going OT.

Tried buffing out light swirls/scratches in my Audi clear yesterday with #80 (didn't have much time) and it just laughed at it. :( Will have to try something more aggressive some other time.

Ah, I see you understand my complaints and concerns about this paint. Yeah, I do hear you on the paint "laughing at" certain products.

Ive detailed a couple A6's recently so im aware of the hard clear. I think my hot rod days are over... hence the A4 :)

I saw your post on AudiWorld yesterday...It seems that most on that board are more interested in Mods than actually caring for the cars. I have an '03 A4 1.8T in the Dolphin Gray, and I hate the clear!! I have even resorted to 2000 grit sandpaper for stubborn scratches!! Funny thing is, as hard as the clear is, if you look at the car the wrong way, it will scratch or chip!!:angry

Your right about Audiworld as far as mods go, I have detailed car though from many forums not only Audiworld and let me tell you, yes some have some nice go mods but the body work on some body kits that I have seen is horrible. What I can't believe is someone with a BMW or and Audi bargaining for body work. I dont mean get ripped off but spend some xtra money and get it done right. Also their care for the exterior and interior makes me want to cry sometimes. I have seen car Zaino's w/o using a good swirl remover and I need not say what happens to sworl filled car with 3 coats of Zaino.

Alex- in ref to PM since your mail box comes up full still. Anyone can correct me, but here I go.

Go ahead and get yourself some Menzerna FPII and IP. Use the FP II with your PC set at 5-6 or best if you really kick butt using a rotary if you have bad swirls on a Audi which is known to have a hard clear. Use FP II with a LC white pad and the same if you some pad scratches or swirls w/ IP. I recomment FMJ now over Klasse SG but to save some money right now you can continue to use the full klasse kit after FP. If you have any other questions let me know I am happy to help

Thanks for the help! I did have a lot of sent items in my PM inbox, so that is all cleared up now. But I will certainly take the Menzerna plunge this week!

Funny I was thinking the same thing. I've painted cars using Dupont's Base Coat and Clears and maintained them afterwards with not half the amount of effort as it takes to get swirls and micro-marring out on my A4.

So the question is why is Audi's Clear Coat so prone to swirl marks and scratches but yet at the same time so hard to remove?

I fellow member over at AW turned me on to some products over at topoftheline that he said worked well on his Audi. I'm going to give them a shot

Paint Polish Medium Cut http://www.topoftheline.com/32ozpowswirr.html

Extreme Cut Leveler http://www.topoftheline.com/32ozexcutpow.html

Yeah I noticed AW is mostly geared towards mods as well. Once in a blue moon I'll browse those forums.

He he, you can say that again about Audi clear; it's not necessarily like a whisp of wind can mar it and then it takes 4 hours to polish it out, rather I think it mars as easily as other cars just a major PITA to remove, seriously, perhaps even more than double the amount of work/time to do so :wall

I'm sure soon enough I'll add Hi Temp to the arsenal as well. I just had some great success but a whole lot of procedure and time to remove some marring that seemed worse to me on part of my rear bumper. All is well know with a steady dose of FP II and PI III MG :up

Morbid it was me mentioning the top of the line products on audiworld. My handle on audiworld is SLVR6. I would use the Hi-temp products with a rotary though
