Microfiber, Makin' the switch (My new view of MF)

I'm going to start carrying more microfiber towels in my truck. I've finally found a use for them that I like :)

Previously I only use them to clean windows, use Plexus, and buff off Klasse AIO and Klasse SG. For everything else I used 100% cotton.

A few days ago I used a damp MF towels to help take the smeared oils off the paint from One Grand Omega Glaze and the MF towel works great for that.

Today I was working on a car with Pro's P-11 Creamy Cutter. It is a compound that leaves a lot of oil on the paint and is difficult to buff off. Normally I use a wet cotton towel and then follow with a dry one to fully remove it before polishing.

Well, today for some reason I finally thought, "Hey! This stuff sure is oily and Mf worked well for One Grand Omega Glaze. Let me try MF towels!" Sure enough, Mf towels take that stuff off the paint so easily.

I'll be ordering some from JT inter since they have a good price. I'm going to order a couple just to see what they are like first. I'm going to now carry them for using with my Compound and Polish.

What I have come to the conclusion is Cotton towels are better at products with a lot of residue or leave a sort of thick, chalky residue. Stuff like carnauba waxes I'll be using Cotton to buff off. Stuff that leaves a lot of oils behind like Glazes and Pro's Creamy Cutter I will now be using Mf towels for!

I also plan on ordering some larger MF towels for drying with. I was using the Waffle Weave towel that Adam's sent me and didn't like how it could still drag dirt across the paint. Now, where do I order Pakshak (or however you spell it) towels from?

I converted to mostly microfiber last summer. I use them for pretty much everything except grunt work. I don't know how I managed before I started using them!

If the MF's are removing the excess oils of the glaze and polish, which they are designed to do, could it also be that the MF's are also removing the glaze and polish as well as waxes?

Just a thought.

I highly doubt it. They just remove the excess better than cotton.

Glad you like using MF towels Intel. :xyxthumbs Another nice thing about good MFs is that they leave little or no lint behind (which I suppose well-used cotton towels are like too).

Pakshak is at www.pakshak.com (PS: don't forget to tell him who you are here :))

I use JT International exclusively, great service and prices and he has both "regular" microfiber and waffle weave. Highly recommended. You can reach him by e-mail: JT International E-mail Address(es):

Hello my fellow Autopians :xyxthumbs

We have checked with our web hosting company and they are having problems with the server that is hosting our domain name. They are currently working on resolving this issue as soon as possible. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Thank you & Aloha,

Products in general buff out easier with MF than cotton, but every once in a while I'll find a product that buffs out easier with cotton terry than MF terry. So far, I've found that Zaino (when fully dry) a few paste waxes like Blitz (but NOT sov or P21S) and Pro's Profection buff out easier using cotton terry.

Intel, BTW, the MF's from Pakshak seem a little better than JT because the threads are stitched a lot nicer, no tags to remove and shipping is free.

Thanks for the info on the Pakshak towels. Even if I order 10 MF from pak it is still 4.25 for the 16x16 towel. I'll eventually have to check their towels out though.

About you first comment, I have found any oily or sticky product seems to come off easier with MF. Any product with a chalky residue (most carnauba waxes) seems to work better with Cotton.

Intel,

I thought Pakshak was offering an Autopia discount of $2/towel? Is that offer no longer valid?

I think you summed up the differences between using MF and cotton for buffing perfectly. Profection does seem a bit powdery but extremely easy to use, dries in 5 minutes and isn't finicky at all when it comes to application (i.e. applying it thick or thin doesn't really matter).

I was thinking the same thing. If you are an Autopian member, you should be able to purchase them at the discounted price, plus shipping.

PakShak towels are awesome. :up They are plush and have no annoying tags to cut off. I've never had a linting problem with them either. Customer service is top notch as well as packaging of your order. Shipping is prompt, and Ranney is great to deal with.

I recently placed an order with Ranney for 25 towels, and would not hesitate to do so in the future. :xyxthumbs

Every MF towel I have seen have rough binding on the corners...looks like the binding thread is melted. I think this would scratch the paint work badly.

This has stopped me from using MF. Are the towels from PakShak any different?

What MF towels do you have that you see this on? Like Geekysteve, my limited variety of towels have serged edges and corners. Even my TW brand ones (which is another reason why I like them :D). The corners might be a bit stiffer because of all the compressed material, but they aren't melted or "hard". :nixweiss
