MG No16 -

I still regularly use #16. Great wet shine, excellent durability. Protects well against bird bombs and beads for months.

I think I may have found a way to extend my stock of #16 as well. I had a can that was about 30% full and mixed in some FK's Pink Wax into it (maybe an 80/20 ratio with 80% being #16). Goes on and off just as easily and has an even wetter shine. Both products are durable on their own, I am interested in seeing how this hybrid holds up. I already have it on a few regular's cars so I can monitor durability.

Very interesting... how exactly did you mix them together? did you heat it up at all? Or just kinda chop it up and mash it together?

Probably a hot plate. They're good for more than just warming up a can of hormel chili when the wife kicks you out of the house

Cool, thanks for the links!

It looks people have had good success with this, but i can't help but think that you lose some of the solvent content. Maybe not enough to effect the usability of the wax, i guess.

Put them together in a #16 tin and then set it in a pan of hot water. In a few minutes, they were liquid. I then placed it into the fridge to cool.

are you serious edlancer? The #16 isn't too old if that is what you are thinking. Just the other products.

Yes, I'am serious find out how much they want for it I will pay you through PayPal !

The last time I gave out my local sources for #16, the dude went and bought the whole lot when I went back for more they were all gone !

listen people, I want a can of this stuff - if someone wants to sell a can to me for a reasonable, marketshare price, just send me a pm. One dude did, and I havent heard back from him. I dont do enough detailing and am not hard core enough like some of you crazies to go find someones stash and buy them out. Thats messed up anyway . . . I have 1K$ on my Amex card that is ages from being paid off because of the PC, rotary, bazillion pads and cobra mf towels, souveran, you name it i charged it (key word - charged . . . not bought). Help me out, hey - and if nonofyaall wanna sell - I can understand. I almost want it more to say I have a antique than to even use it - judging by how people talk about it...

I bet scottwax has a palate of it in his basement - j/k

These belong to the Mike Phillips collection :woot2:

I have about 2 1/2 tins and my younger son has a nearly full tin. As you can see in the previous post, Mike Phillips has all the #16.

LoL, I'am getting another Meguiar rep to do some hunting for me, so far I located one source that offers it at reasonable price ! I can't beleive it that about two years ago I was able to get them for less than $10CAD a tin, now they are selling on eBay for over $40US ...LoL supply and demand I guess !

One of the more prominent members here has posted somewhere that Mothers Pure Carnauba Paste looks the same as #16.

The original poster asked what was special about #16. Here's how I would compare it to a few others. On black, compared to #26, NXT, and S100, the #16's reflections are definitely the most sharply focused. However, looking straight into the paint from a few inches away, it is definitely the least black of these, with the least transparentness, in effect. From several feet away, walking around the vehicle, the #16 is very sharp and impressive.

Most transparent (in effect): #26 > S100 = NXT > #16

Most sharply focused reflections: #16 > S100 = #26 > NXT

Most light-reflective: #16 > S100 > #26 > NXT

(NXT seems noticeably light-absorptive to me.)

I'll try to describe it again:

Looking at the *reflected objects* for brightness and focus, as a casual observer might, #16 could be the best of these.

Looking much closer at the *paint*, or at the wax, I think that while #26 looks closer to a layer of oil, #16 looks closer to a layer of a not-perfectly-transparent wax. (Does anyone agree?)

My sister, a very casual observer, and the owner of the vehicle, likes #16 the best of these.

I *think* I strongly prefer #26, on black.

you bad man! you revealed the only hope in the world of me getting this - and shame on MIke Phillips for never learning to share . . . . hahah - just kidding. Well I aint gonna lie - XTAHOEX found the same place I did - its in the UK and I am waiting for an email from them to see if they have any. Perhaps I will actually get a tin before all you nutheads take a concord jet over there and walk into their storage facility via gunpoint . . . .

taking a second look at that picture of no 16 . . . .thats not even cool man . . . why would you post a pic like that - my day is just ruined now . . . :furious:

I think Meg's still sells #16 internationally.. the VOC regulations only apply to the US market.

Just put a WTB/Trade ad in The Trading Post forum. The stuff is still around, the trick is finding a place that still has some in stock. Meg's #16 lasts almost forever, so even if you find a 1/2 tin, as long as it has been kept sealed, you'll be OK and still have enough to last for a long time.

I think this wax was introduced sometime around 1951 if I recall correctly. It wasn't getting a whole lot of mention on here until Scottwax (and maybe a few others) started posting reviews on how well it looked and how durable it was. As other members gave it a try it gained in popularity (around here anyway) until the new VOC regs came out and Meg's discontinued selling it in the states.

After it was announced that it was being discontinued there were still a lot of suppliers with stock and many members here bought up several tins. My guess is that a "non-pro" who bought up some of these tins might realize they now have more than they'll ever use in their lifetime (a little bit goes a long way). That's why I suggest placing an ad here on Autopia; there is enough of that stuff around that someone should be willing to trade or sell a tin for a fairly reasonable price. Be patient grasshopper, you'll eventually find some. There might even be a member from the UK who would trade you a tin for something that is hard to find over there.

While I don't consider it my best looking carnauba, I do think it's the best looking "long-lasting" carnauba that I have. And the nostalgia factor that this wax has been around, virtually unchanged, since the 50's earns it a place of honor on my shelf. I was just fortunate enough to have tried it long before the VOC regs came out and was able to snag a couple of extra tins while it was still being sold.
