Then, the choice of choices - in every review you will read in every car magazine in every part of the world is the BMW M5!! BMW has perfected the luxury/sports sedan in the M5. That cannot be argued.

M5 = You want comfort? Just kick back and enjoy the ride. You want speed? Push it and you're smoking just about everyhthing on the road? You want a combination of both all the time??? YOU GOT IT!

Benzes are heavy and tend to feel a little clumsy. And, yeah, I know that that's what the reviews always say. But I am not speaking solely by what the reviews say... I've had the sweet opportunity of driving a CLK55 and WoW!! :shocked Sweet ride!! But it FEELS heavy and more times than I wanted, it felt clumsy. Yeah, it's FAST!! But it lacks agility and spirit. I suppose I've been spoiled by the BMW formula of car building.

And what is this about M3 engine failures??? I am in a BMW club where there are a good number of M3s and the only failures I've ever heard about the E46 M3 engine is THE FAILURE OF THE DRIVER TO GET ENOUGH OF IT"S INCREDIBLE SPIRITED AND POWERFUL "TORQUE-ALL-UP-IN-YOUR-FACE" ENGINE. Other than that, no problems what-so-ever.

Benzes are sweet. The CLK AMG footprint is, to me, a work of art. At this point in my life though, I would not want one. I wanna hug the road like no one's business MOST OF THE TIME. When I take a deep curve at 85MPH I don't wanna feel the momentum of my car going somewhere other than where I am going... I want the experience to be as if I were running the curve myself on foot! In other words, I want the car and I to be at one with one another. I want to do all those things you mentioned you wanna do, but I wanna do it FAST and often times FURIOUSLY. I wanna be at one with the car I am driving... I want exhilliration! I want FUN! I want SPIRIT!!... and if I wanna talk on my hands free, I will... but frankly I really don't want to! I'm having too much darn fun in my Bimmer! OH!! And when people I don't know compliment my car, I wanna get out and look at it with them and relive the very reason I bought it.

Whew!! It was even fun writing about it :bounce

Man, I love this car!!

I xpected many posts.....but not this many:scared

& I knew that B.M.W. will win.....on every forum I posted it did:( .......I'm still trying 2 comprehend why r Benzes sold more than B.M.W.'s......'cause there are alot more Bemmer fans than Mercedes-Benz:(

The reason Benz sells more cars is because they have more curb appeal and are all offered with a automatic transmission. Unfortunately our society has made the stereotype that if you own a MB you are rich. BMW is not perceived as such. BMW has to deal with the stereotype that you are an a$#hole if you own a Bimmer. Also, women are becoming a huge force in the automobile market. Many cars are directly marketed towards them, among them, Mercedes. Look at the lines of the car, very femine compared to the BMWs which are/were very Germanic and masculine. The fact that MB only offers an auto also helps sell to women as most do not know how to drive a manual car. I also think Bimmer fans are younger and more loyal then MB fans. That could be a reason why all online polls favor BMW, younger people are more apt to be on the Internet. Just my .02 cents.

IMO the B.M.W. was spoiled by the "fan-boy" attitude seen on every car forum out there......I believe that is the main reason 4 me not liking them......there r too many dumba$$ kids who would like 2 own one....& have a PC with internet connection....the only B.M.W. fans which I respect r the ones who do own a B.M.W.:bow

What I do know is that both companies make fine cars. I also know that both companies don't really step on one another's toes in terms of marketing... not too much anyway.

They have different markets and they have different philosophies by which they build their character. IMO, the knowledgable consumer who does his research, after doing so is FORCED to appreciate and RESPECT both car companies. THEY will buy one or the other based on what they personally want and they will know that either MB or BMW does that particular thing the BEST in the industry! THEY will be proud owners of what they have because they KNOW what they have.

The superficial, on the other hand, will buy one or the other and will brag ignorantly about how great their car is based on the logo that it bears, not knowing a thing about what makes that logo great. To me, those are the TRUE "A-Holes" and they spoil it for those of us who are true enthusiasts and supporters of our cars. The true KNOWLEDGABLE BMW enthusiast may not ever want a Benz, but he/she highly respects MB for what MB excells at. The same is true of the true and KNOWLEDGABLE MB enthusiast.

I will say this though (and this is no knock to MB)... I find more KNOWLEDGABLE BMW owners than I find MB owners. Most of the MB owners I've spoken to know nothing about what makes that 3-spoked symbol great. They simply bought it for the prestige of the symbol. I very rarely find that in BMW owners. To me, that is an injustice and a travesty to MB.

That all being said, I conclude: may both BMW and Mercedes Benz rule forever. There is room for 2 kings in the mass production sector of the automotive industry. Both have perfected the very thing that has made them great and therefore they deserve the crowns they wear.

Till next time... :xyxthumbs Zoooooooommm [clutch, shift, drop] Zoooooooooommmmmm!!!

Talk about beating a dead horse.

I think they both make a fine automobile. I think that each one drives eachother to make a better, safer, sportier, nicer, well-rounded car.

(Thats all im gonna say)

By the way it's BMW not B.M.W., just thought you should know.

Yes...indeed....but since B comes from Bayerische,M from Motoren & W from Werke I found it appropiate to use "."

Simple test

I Test drove a Mercedez 200 and 400 series

Then a BMW 3 and 5 series...

MB's Slipped and slided in the snow (and not a lot of it)

BMWs did not.

Got the bimmer... I am happy

( I also thought that the cockpit of the MB looked very 80's)
