Menzerna's FMJ

Hav eyou tried FMJ? If not, it is definately worth it....I used to use Werkstatt, and I think the FMJ blows it away in my opinion.

:nixweiss I continue to buy Werkstatt, got my FMJ from a fellow autopian. Nice product but I never ordered any. DP's Premium Surface Shield is as good as FMJ, IMO and cheaper to boot.

But that is why there are so many choices out there. We all have certain, but often different things we are looking for. :)

Opinions were asked for and a lot were given. If you prefer FMJ then by all means use it.

I just wanted to put in my opinions from testing. Its does not blow away JW.

It didn't even make my top 3

1. Zaino is the king IMO until my testing proves other wise.

2. DG is 2nd and is better than FMJ in my testing.

3. JW is 3rd and is better than FMJ in my testing.

FMJ initially went on slick , but in my testing lost all most all of its slickness and durability after a couple of washes. IMO it left a sterile plastic but shinny look.

Dogma,

Like I said, that is why we all have opinions. I thought that Zaino looked beautiful until about 1 month in and the protection was average at best for me. Judging by the new posts I have seen, I am not the only one. JW was something I loved, but I prefer FMJ and feel it is better on all fronts.

Josh-you also might want to give Detailer's Pride's Premium Surface Shield a try if you like FMJ. Similar look and slickness but a lot cheaper.

Justin would probably be the one to really know about that though since he has the current version of both product on hand.

I've used it on many different vehicles.

The ones they were not polished and are also not washed, very often, or ever it didn't last very long but what will in those conditions?

On prepped vehicles that are not washed very often it lasted a decent amount but again nothing lasts long if grime just sits on the surface.

On my own car, with 3 coats it lasted easily 5 months through Buffalo winters and I couldn't wash the car usually for 3-4 weeks at a time. I also did not use any booster. If you use HGAS it brings the slickness right back. HGAS is very easy to apply as is FMJ. FMJ goes on and off very easy and beads very tight as well.

I used it in July and didn't top my car with anything for about 3-4 months and it was still going strong. It was washed about every week. I only topped it because I purchased some AJ and wanted to try it out.

Summary:

It is higher priced than other products. It goes on thin. It applies and removes very easy and the slickness is awesome. Slickness does diminish after a few washes but HGAS brings it right back. Beading doesn't diminish as quickly. I get 4-5+ months of tight beading. I like it. I think it looks very good on everything I have used it on. There are cheaper products that last about the same time.

I have been using FMJ for about a year now. I have applied it to my 06 black Miata, my 05 charcoal Tundra and a silver 05 Highlander. All vehicles looked great when done. But if you think about it, what car wouldn't after washing, machine polishing and sealing? I have bragged about Menzerna numerous times. However, from what I read here Zaino and Werkstatt sound awesome as well. I did notice a big difference on my Mazda when I included the finishing touch glazing step. Much smoother and slicker than without. Just before I found this website I bought over a hundered dollars of Menzerna refill products because it was the best I found thus far. I tried their high gloss acrylic shield and HATED it. It clouded and streaked so badly that I had to strip and start over again. This really bummed me out because I like the idea of using a detail spray but definately not this one. Interestingly, FMJ water beading was GONE in about 3 weeks. This makes me seriously question its durability. For those of you who think Blackfire is any better forget it. It dusts quite a bit and it not nearly as easy coming off as FMJ. Blackfire is the personal line of Proper Auto Care in Fl. It's kind of a Menzerna wannabe. I Really like the look of FMJ and it's incredibly easy to use. But as others have pointed out and I totally agree, its durability leaves much to be desired.

I completely agree. The only way to evaluate a wax or sealant is with a side-by-side comparison to other products.
