Menz PO85RD

I use both 85RD and 106FF, switching between them depending on the correction needed for each area of my car. I use the same pad for both.

I do it with EZ Creme for mine - really cuts the dusting down and leaves an amazing finish. Doesn't hide much, but it's not a bad idea to do an IPA wipedown after.

Pretty much the same concept I utilize with adding a drop of Opt polish.

Thanks!

85RD is so easy to use a Caveman could do it........

Hmmm.. I should probably order some, then.

I'm almost out of 106FF. I've been considering the new Einszett polish, as it's quite a bit cheaper. Now I can't decide between the Einszett or the 85RD.

With 106FF you can user a softer pad compared to 85RD. This eliminates any concerns with it not finnishing as good and it being slightly harder to use.

Even with the softer pad 106FF will have more cut as its a superior product.

Having slightly better correction abilities is a bonus as light swirls will dissappear.

While I haven't used the Einzett (yet) I have used 85RD and it's by far my *personal* polish. Rare that it gets used anywhere else as it usually takes care of the light toweling marks while leaving the surface just gorgeous.

The vote is getting swayed toward the 85RD, as your opinion carries alot of weight for me, SpoiledMan. (And I've got the grout sponges to prove it. Best ONR wash media there is.) :)

I *never* use 106ff to correct any swirls. If there's still swirls in the paint, then I'm not ready to use my final polish yet, so I couldn't care less about the difference in cut. I think this polish is kinda geared for people that make sure pretty much everything is out of the paint before the final polish.

Think I'm gonna pick a quart of this up. The price is pretty reasonable, too.

For me I do use 106FF for correction on my paint. My paint never has more than light washing/drying induced marring and there is never need for anything other than a light cut polish. PO85RD works well, but sometimes I'd have to do a couple of pass to remove them all...where as 106ff can remove them with one pass.

Never tried that.. does it work well?

I dunno :D ask SRV

PO85RD was the first finishing polish I did use, but nowadays I always uses PO85RE5 or PO106FF/FA. You must try to correct swirls with the PO106FF, with proper pads you can correct light to medium swirls.

Get the PO85RD you won't be disapointed!!

I should probably clarify a bit... I don't use 106ff as a first-step process to correct swirls. If I have used a compound which left swirls in the paint, yes, I'll use 106ff to get rid of compounding swirls, but not as a first step process. SIP is always my first-effort polish. If I can't get the defects out with SIP, I step it up a notch. If SIP gets everything out, I'm left with a swirl-free finish for a round of 106ff. Most of the time, SIP leaves LSP ready results, but I always try to go for every bit of shine I can, and finish with a round of 106ff.

I've yet to run into paint so soft 106ff won't finish clean on it. Judging by the industry though, I am sure it won't be long until I do. I still have almost a full 32oz of 8rd, because I just always tend to grab 106ff when I go mobile.

I corrected a *Vette* today with 106ff and a green CCS. Talk about one step madness.:D

That sounds paaaaainful! I'm hoping there's pics of it in the Click n Brag. It's always a pleasure to view your work man.

It wasn't that bad. I hadn't done a "top notch" job on a C6 and it wasn't nearly as difficult as I expected. I probably wont make it to C&B tonight as I didn't sleep much last night and it's been a long day. Thank you *very* much for the compliment!

How did you add more lube??

I add a drop of opt. polish on my pad = no dusting & longer work times.. is this your practice?

Yes a small amount of glycerin does the job greatly

DG 601 applied by machine before 106 or other polish usually equals no dust, better spreading and working time and more colour richness.

Not to thread-jack my own thread...but SVR, are you still using DG601 prior to polishing (sounds like you are)? I remember reading a thread of yours a few months ago about just that. Do you then re-apply 601 prior to your LSP...or are you just using 601 for polishing?? Do you apply 601 to the entire car then start polishing?? An update on all this would be much appreciated.

Hi Frosty, I've never seen you here before, nice to meet ya

I'm getting low on it as I only bought a 16 oz bottle as I do when I buy a product for the first time.

On occasions I do reapply by hand to lift the colour richness and of course a base for LSP

Most of the time though I use prime acrylic.

I do not apply any product to the entire car and start polishing, it's one panel at a time for me.

One thing I just can't do is go around a car three to five times. It may be quicker but it's just not for me.

Just like any polish, I apply a few drops of product and buff it in at 900 rpm until the watery liquid dries up.

The menzerna etc goes on top of that and I find the watery consistency of the 601 helps heaps with dust and work time.

With one of my own scratchinator polishes, a 1500 grit one called Banish, I added 601 directly to the recipe plus 10ml of glycerin and it spreads for ages and does not dust.

Sounds like everyone else is and your missing out ;)

That why 106ff is way better than 85RD. It does everything 85RD does plus more.
