Meguiars

Meguiar's can pretty much do no wrong. Although I am open to trying new things. I have not used any Blackfire products as of yet but they sound great.

Sure seems like everyone is trying it except me LOL .Will have to see if i can get some too try.But your right about Megs

The Blackfire Wet Diamond over Fire Ice will look awesome on a Black corvette I know someone has.........:D

there is no comparison between megs and blackfire they are two completely different shines, i use both regularly at my shop megs everyday and blackfire on the ones who pay a little more, Blackfire is definitely superior.

I am a pretty big Meguiars fan. All the products I use on my truck are Meguiars. While there may be better products, I like using Meguiars because its OTC, not too expensive. And I get the results I am looking for.

I try a bit of everything, but my main "go to" sealant is NXT 2.0 right now. That said, I'm getting my BF Wet Diamond on Tuesday and plan to do a full detail on my white IS350. Not exactly the best color to determine the shine of a particular product, but I've got a good sense of what my car looks like with NXT 2.0, Collinite 476s, Collinite 845, Poorboy's EX-P, KSG, Meg's GC, D151 and probably a few I've forgotten.

Thus far, I haven't seen too much variance in the looks department, although if I were a betting man, I'd actually say I think Gold Class *probably* looked the best.

Having said that, since I haven't noticed much of a difference in area of shine, the other factors become uber important, such as ease of application/removal, durability and non-staining.

So, if BF Wet Diamond goes on and off like a dream and doesn't stain, I can easily see it becoming my "go to" sealant. Very excited about the prospect.

I'm more of a sealant guy and I've tried a bunch including Zaino, and I have a black car and white SUV so I get both ends of the color spectrum. That said, Blackfire is the easiest, slickest, best looking and dollar for dollar the best value I've found. My NXT 2.0 - gave away, M21 2.0 - use on wheels now, DG 111 - still like it and use it on my cheap customers.

I still have to try that jar of Blackfire wax, maybe after the next wash!

Junebug,

What is your opinion of Zaino vs. Black Fire Wet Diamond. Forget about price for a minute or even the amount of work that goes into Zaino, which do you think:

1) Looks better;

2) Lasts longer;

3) Feels slicker?

Thanks.

Zaino vs. Black Fire Wet Diamond -
looks - very subjective, but I couldn't tell them apart - when Zaino was works right

slickness - too close to call

durability - I've had zaino give up after a few months - yeah even after a couple weeks, but I blame myself on that for not doing 15 IPA's after using menzerna 106

To me, Blackfire is the best, it's "bubba" proof and that means a lot. I had spent hours on a 4 door black Tundra, ZAIO, Z6, Z2, Z8 - and it looked beatiful in the garage, pulled it out in the sun and my QC inspector (wife) said hell no, it won't go. It had streaks and smears all over it, I swear to baby Jesus I followed all the zaino directions to the letter. Lucky I had a bottle of Majestic Solutions Showroom Shine to go over it, that took care of the mess. After that, I am convinced that zaino is just too finicky for me.

On another board there's a guy that use to love CG's Jet Seal, he tried Blackfire and now he's a convert.

"Bubba proof".... LOL.... just up my alley. Exactly what I need.

I just got mine last night, so this weekend will be testing weekend. Can't wait. I'll let you know how it goes.

I haven't tried Blackfire yet (waiting to win the contest!) but I agree with the others' statements about Meguiars. OTC available, priced right, professional line products just awesome, and customer satisfaction a reality instead of just a tagline.

Just one more thing sir (Lt Columbo) I read something a while back from Todd and he mentioned he did a coat of BF sealant, and after the next wash - added another. That's exactly how I did my car and a month later still feels as slick after a wash. Oh, and tried applying by hand and by PC, it's all good!

It does seem to me that Meguiar's takes a lot of unwarranted flak, and I'm not sure why. They offer the most diverse collection of products, professional and consumer, in the industry. I'm sure that it is the case that they do not hit a home run with every product, but surely they should be applauded for their overall product quality and value, as well as their outstanding customer service. As a detailing newb, I am grateful that I stumbled upon Meguiar's and MOL.

How did I stumble upon Meguiar's? you may ask. I was at an auto parts store in New Jersey, looking over waxes. I had just purchased Mother's paint cleaner, glaze, and wax, which the clerk had commended to me. A customer behind me whispered to me, "Next time, get Meguiar's." And so next time, I got Meguiar's (specifically, the Gold Class wax). I then searched on the internet and discovered Meguiar's Online, and the rest is history.

NXT in particularly seems to receive a great deal of criticism, yet it has worked very well for me. I will not say that it is the absolute best sealant for the dollar, but I do think it is fair to say that it is the absolute best for the dollar of the waxes and sealants that are widely available in local stores. I personally think Reflections competes well with it, but most retailers do not carry it, just as most retailers do not carry the Duragloss line. I have seen NXT now on several different finishes, from black to white; and I have yet to be disappointed. My one criticism is that it can stain trim. I am willing to pay a bit extra for a protectant I don't have to worry about in that regard. But for most people, this is not an issue or concern: they just pay attention to their waxing technique and ensure they do not get NXT on the trim. Fair enough.

I wonder how many people have been introduced to detailing through Meguiar's. My guess is that Meguiar's is responsible for bringing more people into this avocation than all other companies combined--and that is saying something!

Cheers,
Al

Meguiars actually got me into detailing 3 years ago, since then I use just about all Meguiars products.

Meguiar's, IMO, is one of the top companies in the auto care industry, and for a number of good reasons! I really think a lot of companies in all ranges, from low end jobber products to the highest end boutique product lines could learn a lot from them.

1)They are the only big companies to truly preach technique of product. From a product manufacturer. Mike Phillip's has successfully taught more people to polish correctly then all of the other forums combined IMO. From two buckets to how to polish, I don't see any other company focus so much on doing so much correctly. Compare this with other companies who sell mis truth and lie after lie.

2)Out of all of the big companies that do bodywork/detailshop/pro line business, Meguiar's IMO stands head and shoulders above the rest. The newest products that Jason Rose has been developing are easily as good (better in my opinion) as anything on the market. We strive to only carry the best, and I think Meguiar's is the top of the big companies. I am happy to carry such a complete line of their product and we look forward to completing the line ASAP.

3)From start to finish very few product companies offer such a diverse selection of high quality products.

4)They have great, friendly, employees who truly have a passion for there job and 'get' detailing.

5)They carry themselves with respect.

If I was only able to use one product line for the rest of my life, I would be hard pressed to use anything other then Meg's.

+1 on all of your points, but especially on the final one. I believe Meguiars is the only automotive detailing manufacturer that actually hosts a detailers forum. With that comes a lot of responsibility which MeguiarsOnLine has handled with efficient professionalism. MOL allows and even encourages discussion of non-Meguiars products while disallowing product bashing of their competitors. What better way to express confidence in your product line? Oh yeah, by offering a complete, money back satisfaction guarantee - which they do

On the education aspect, Meguiars is heads and shoulders above the rest by hosting free detailing classes at their facility in Irvine, CA, throughout the year. Add to that the Meguiars regularly dispatches their employees across the country to participate in similar classes and seminars hosted by other detailing giants like AutoGeek.

The final yardstick of professionalism: Meguiars will not sell their products at any of their free classes, despite numerous requests by the class attendees to do so, to avoid any inference of impropriety. :cornut:

Mother's and Poorboy's also have their own forums, but MOL seems to be a lot bigger and more thorough in covering all detailing aspects of a car.

Speaking of detailing classes, when is CMA going to have one? It'd be a a lot of fun and also very educational.;)
