Megs clay bar vs clear coat body scrub?

just a quick question. i recently purchased the megs clay bar kit with the detailer in it. but having read the packet it sounds like their clear coat body scrub does the same thing in the sense "removes surface contaminants". whats the difference in terms of their performance? any help would be great :D
 
I'll try to clear that up for ya. Clear coat body scrub is an aggressive cleaner that does remove surface contaminants, but won't remove the imbedded stuff like a clay bar will. A clay bar will actually 'pull' contaminants out of the paint such as rail dust, industrial fall out, imbedded bug guts, brake dust, etc.

thanks jeremy, so i take it that the body scrub is similar to a light compund like 3M hand glaze? reason im asking is that i want to FULLY detail my car before the cold kicks in over here so im stocking up on products beforehand.
 
Are you talking about the consumer clay bar. If so, I think you can find much better clay out there. The 3M is far superior.



It is not the cold which makes cleaning difficult in the UK, it is the damp.
 
If you got over the counter Meguiar's clay bar take it and throw it i the garbage. You will thank me. i bought some a couple weeks ago cause they were out of Mothers clay bar and I threw it out! It took us onger to get the clay residue off the car than it did to detail the car! Mothers or Clay Majic is the way to go!
 
LOL, i guess i should have saved some money by not buying any! yeah over the counter stuff, simply becase of ease of access as meguiars is considered the "premium" product plus i would say 95% of my area stocks the same old products or something that is made in-house by themselves.



Lowejackson what do you use when detailing? i agree its not the cold but the rain and damp sure gets on my nerves especially spending most of sunday trying to get it clean. any suggestions would be good as i think i will be heading to a motor factor warehouse near my city centre for products so the like of 3m shouldnt be a problem. just things like mother's or pinnacle etc will be difficult. oh and thank you for the "serious performance" website its great!

Kind of. It is an abrasive cleaner so it's part compound and part cleaner. Here is a quote from the meguiars web site.



Clear Coat Body Scrub Paint Cleaner

3M Products work well so if you can get them, go for it.

thanks again jeremy, yeah 3m i can get hold i am just not familiar with the vast range of products each company can supply, so i will stick with the ones i have seen the results of.



agreed with everyone else when they say this can get expensive lol.
 
There is nothing wrong with the Meguiars consumer range, but you can buy better products. If your happy with what you have - dont worry. This does not need to be an expensive hobby, but if you have the cash burning a hole in your pocket..........
 
Autopia makes good clay bars (didn't use it but it's rated #1 in the clay bar review) but they're expensive.
 
how come alex has the same website under two different addresses? thanks lowejackson, i will see if my local can supply me the 3M clay then put the clearkote on my list of others which i need from alex :D

The Meguiar's clay bar will leave streaks if ample amounts of detailing spray is not used. However, the streaks are difficult to remove just by rubbing. Follow up the streaks with the Meguairs cleaner wax, the streaks come off as easy as baby powder.
