Meg's 105 & 205

Yep.

I have also had paints where I could not get M205 to finish perfectly on the rotary or DA.
Would you say it's more the color of the paint the make of the car or clear coat.Just wondering if it tends to be one car maker more then the other or is this a problem across the board .

I'd like to think it has more to do with the hardness of the paint (clear). I've had M205 micro marr with the Flex on both the black '68 Vette and now the black Chevy truck I just finished. Yet both of those vehicles finished down perfectly with M205 on the rotary. On my TSX I can finish down with M205 just fine on the Flex with no marring or swirling...but when I followed it up with UF on the rotary it looked just a little more clear and deeper in color. Billy had found the same thing on the Black NSX he did, which was the reason for me trying the UF in the first place.

I honestly have not done enough playing around with the polishes yet to figure out what it is. I usually don't have the time to sit and play around with different techniques when working on a customer’s car. If one polish doesn't work with my normal process I'll grab something else. :D

I think once Kevin’s paper comes out it will help a lot with those troubled paints using M105/M205. :bigups

i should be able to make a determination for myself on at least the 205 - I have a couple of samples that arrived today. I will try them out this afternoon hopefully. I have been using Menzerna PO106FF to get some marring and random swirling out and have been pleasanlty surprised at how well it is finishing out.

Just got started a year ago - then neck/spine surgery. Now I'm getting back into it (I hope). I have a flex; used a white foam pad and Menz' S34A Power Gloss, then final polish II (blue foam) with my flex. Perfect!! (02' Jetta dark green/blue). My question is this: I've seen alotta posts here and there about Meguiars M105 being better than S34A. Much better. But the same forums also say it's a product that needs a 'good rotary only'. I want to try the M105 but I ONLY have the flex. Is this 'rotary only' thing really true? BTW: get a flex, you'll love it.

Is this 'rotary only' thing really true?

No. Even though the original version of 105 wasn't designed for a DA, a lot of people used it with one and achieved great results. The new version however, is designed to be used with DAs as well.

After using both polishes in a few isolated areas on my truck, I am not real sure what I think of them. Maybe I need more practice with them.

i dont know if this has been mentioned but whats the difference between M105 and M95 ??

i see on eshine the 105 is basically $40 and is an ultra cut
the M95 is a speed cut and same bottle size as well for $24.00

is the $40 worth it and that much difference ?

i need something heavy duty and see these two are basically very similar with two different names ?

didnt see the rotary use only part ... and its DA approved so im gonna have to get the 105 i guess i cant save money there LOL

While both are rated at a cut of 12, I think the 105 has just a bit more bite and finishes out a little better than 95. That aside, the only difference between them is M105 has a shorter working time, where as 95 has a longer working time like a conventional polish/compound.

After becoming more acquainted with these two polishes - I like M105 and the ability to quickly cut down sanding marks and marring. I am not real sure I like M205 all that much. I just don't see what all the rave is about regarding the 205. Didn;t really do anything to "wow" me.

JaredP, do you use #80/Speed Glaze? Do you like it as compared to 205? No WOW? Lacking clarity? gloss? cut?

I use M105 and 205 with my PC and both are fantastic. 105 is a very aggressive compound that finishes off amazingly well. 205 is about as aggressive as 83 but finishes down like 80.

I have a small sample that Charles gave me, however I haven;t compared it to the 205. I am not sure what it was - I think if I had to pinpoint it would be the hype I have heard about both. The 105 I can see where it comes from - to me the 205 didn't do anything that other stuff on the shelf I already have couldn't have done.

Hype can be a real lead balloon when you actually get your hands on the product, can't it? Two specific products from a single product line always come to mind for me when product hype is mentioned. Both products are decent enough. I don't have any specific gripes about them, other than they just don't come close to performing up to the standards that were established by the hype.

What machine did you use for the 105 and 205?

I like 105/205. It works and works fast when using the Meg's pads. It did not work as predictably with LC CCS pads.

I have many products that will achieve the same end results. I just find M205 to do it easier and faster.

Sorry to hear they didn't impress you much. :(

Tried it on both the Flex and the PC, with flat Edge pads, LC CCS pads, and 4" cyclo pads on the PC.

The 105 is pretty nice, and i haven't closed the book on the 205. :) I'll give them both more chances. I'd really like to go after a neglected finish with them and the Flex.

Right on. Be sure to try the M205 with the new Megs W9207 2.0 pads too. :bigups

I agree completely. Not that 205 is a bad polish, but after 105 being leaps and bounds better than other compounds, I expected the 205 to be the same.
