I use the Dynabrade adapter with a Hitachi rotary with great results, but boy, is it heavy! :eek:

I am sure it is a great tool in your hands

but I don't think it if for everybody

and if you do a search you will find several threads

where people have damaged paint with the dynabrade



I have burned the paint with a PC

and the dynabrade has what 2x the power

so it can't be that hard ............keep trying:rolleyes:
 
Your suggestion that owning a PC and a rotary is a better value certainly has merit on financial terms.



What you do not address is the fact that some people do not have the skill or desire/ability to learn to use a rotary w/o causing damage. What is the value in saving $150 on a PC vs. the Flex and having to repaint panels damaged with a rotary while you are learning.



I used a PC for quite a while before purchasing the FLEX. The results are not even close IMHO. Even my wife noticed the difference.



Additionally, I can work faster and for a longer time just based on the better ergonomics of the FLEX. If it did the same job as the PC, the $$ difference would be worth it to me on those terms alone.



I am a weekend warrior and I love the Flex. That said, I did have an issue with the backing plate and called Powerhosue who sent out a new one immediately.



Why would a tool that does a better job, be easier to use, and cut down work time be over hyped???

Everytime someone tries to make something idiot proof, they build a better idiot. People do damage paint with UDM's, PC's, etc.



Yes, there are pros and cons to each side of the story; there always is/are. BUT The Rotary/Dynabrade combo is a worthwhile alternative to consider.
 
All I care about is people being happy with the machines they're using. If somebody loves their [whatever] and the results they're getting, then more power to them IMO, even if that machine would leave me cold.



I like seeing the Dynabrade getting some mention again, and I for one find all the different machines on the market interesting- compare today with a few decades ago when you only had rotaries and Cyclos, period. I can imagine buying a Flex, a Dynabrade attachment, a UDM, and even that little thing that Griot's is selling..bet I'd find a use for each of 'em. I just like tools in general and polishers in particular (but I currently have two rotaries, two PCs and two Cyclos, and that really is enough :o ).



Heh heh, I'm still happiest when using my Cyclos! I might reach for a rotary when I need to, or for a PC for some jobs, but I simply like using the Cyclos best. I can certainly imagine somebody feeling the same way about *their* machine of choice.
 
I've been in this business for a long time and still have fond memories using my Gem Orbital. This was an idiot proof machine he he he.
 
I used a PC my first year of detailing and had great results. But it seemed like it was taking WAY longer than it should have. I switched to the FLEX and am achieving the same results in less time. Detailing is a third job for me so I am only doing it on the weekends. It is absolutely perfect for what I need it to do!! Not really sure what else matters? Does it make me less of a detailer if I don't use a rotary? Could I possibly achieve better/different results with a rotary/PC combo? Probably. Do my customers know that difference? No. Are they happy? YES!!
 
Yeah, that's what I was thinking...I'm thinking of a metal-bodied unit.. It woulda been a single-head competitor to the Cyclo but I wonder why they never got as much exposure.
 
My guess would be that their large pad size (11�) and moderate power (about 250W) make them less attractive for defect removal.



For passenger cars I find an 11� pad to be waaaaay too big in general.

Hmm.. I was thinking the Gem was a lot smaller. If the 50-year timeframe is right, I don't *think* they had big plastic things like that back then :think: Hope Dent's & Details posts back so he can clear this up.



And yeah, those huge-size pad/bonnet things never made a good impression on me either, but I do believe they beat doing stuff by hand.

I've had my Flex since December 07. I have read all the articles on the Flex, PC7424, Rotory,all the different brands etc. I have read good reviews and bad. I have read about the problems some have had. Gears , pads smoking, etc. I've used mine probably 60 times. I have never had any of the problems I heard about. I am very profficent with a rotory. That's all there was before a PC was even thought about. It did take getting use to, but that did not take long. I find it to be a good solid built piece of equipment. All new products have bugs ,like some of the outrageously priced new cars. Even the gas guzzlers. But the only time you hear about a recall is if it's saftey related. In other words unless you can be injured in some way ,the car or the buffer, lawn mower , phone , BBQ grill etc. Will not be recalled. Most of these big conglomrates only care about one thing. $$$$$$$$$

Honestly I do not think the Flex has a manufactoring problem. I think most of the time it is operator error, or people just bashing it because they can't afford to buy one. Jealousy

This is just my opinion and not meant to step on anyones toes. Alot of people must be drinking the Hater Aid! Also the Flex does come with a warranty. I'm Happy with mine!
