well ill be purchasing a rotary soon and was wondering out of these three, which do you find the easiest and best? the makita and pc are about $200 while the hitachi is $170. i have read a lot of people use the makita so im kind of leaning towards that but i havent read much about the pc 7428. i own the pc7424 and really like it but it just takes so long and i believe i have done enough research on how to use a rotary that i am ready for one
From my experience they're all reliable and have what it takes to get the job done. The prices are pretty much the same. Take a look at the weight and also know that the Hitachi comes with a 5 year warranty while the others are only a year. I ordered my Hitachi off of ebay and the price was $134 shipped and insured. It wont be here until Tuesday though. Atticdog has his already though and I'm pretty sure he'll chime in.
For years I have used my B&D rotary (Dewalt 849 equivalent) to compound and in some cases light polishing. At 8.x pounds I'm just wanting something lighter for less fatigue. While I don't feel that any one of these machines is truly any better in quality than the other the weights of the Makita and Hitachi stand out as they're 2.x pounds lighter than the others. The Fein and Metabo are also lighter polishers but IMO the price doesn't work once the warranty gets factored in. My choice to pick up the Hitachi was because of the weight, price($134 shipped) and the 5 year warranty.
I just received my Hitachi. Seems like a quality tool and it has a nice feel to it. The motor runs smoothly and sound powerful. I can't wait to give it a try. One question though. I've heard mention of this tool having a 5 year warranty, but my warranty registration card states there is only a one year warranty. What gives? No other paperwork in the box makes mention of the warranty coverage. Is it really 5 years?
i too was concerned  about this as my warranty card states one year...i purchased my through coastal tools....i went to the hitachi website and if i remeber correct and read it right it extends the one year to five years although i have not confirmed it with but i am sure i am right....a buddy of mine purchased one from somewhere else and his has a one year warranty card...keep us updated
the five year warranty is what make this tool complete
How come it seems as if everyone has paid way more for their Hitachi than I did? I am still waiting for mine to be delivered and is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. My cost was $95 plus shipping, which came out to be about $103. I ordered mine from coastal tools.
