Hey folks,
Terry from CMA emailed me this morning..here is what I found, and what I have replied.
We changed the formula of Paintwork Cleansing Lotion about 2 months ago. A number of our professional users had complained that it wasn't strong enough on older cars. We switched the solvent base from d-limonene (citrus) to a mild mineral spirit. The older product smells like oranges. The current product has slight "chemical" odor and is thicker. Both are totally non-abrasive. We knew in doing this that some customers would prefer the original formula but the new product does a better job of removing old wax and minor oxidation. The citrus-based Paintwork Cleansing Lotion has a shelf life of over two years. When it "spoils" (remember it has a natural ingredient in it) you know it right away because it smells like rotten eggs.
As new technology becomes available, we make running changes in all our products. These changes are usually small and we don't put "new" or "improved" on the label.
If your bottles of Paintwork Cleansing Lotion smells like oranges you have the original formula. If you want to return those bottles I'll be glad to swap them for the current formula. On the other hand, there is nothing wrong with the product you have and if you're working on a newer car there is no advantage to you in going to a stronger product.
Happy holidays,
Terry Freiberg
My reply
Actually Terry I have the newer "chemical" formula. Hmmm..Terry, do you still believe the formula to be mild? David Bynon and other Autopia members and moderators have always touted PPCL as a MILD cleanser, recommended for NEW cars because of its gentle cleansers.
I just wanted to confirm that the new product still have this "mild" cleansing in mind. I really bought the bottles to use on a 2001 Ford Mustang, and my soon to be purchased Ford 2002 F-250. If the product is a mineral spirit based product, or a harsher product..I may just return the bottles. Again, I just want to make sure that in changing the product, you have kept that "gentleness" of the original formula in mind.
Again, not to jump to conclusions here..but it sounds like this new PPCL is STRONGER than the originial. Kinda ticks me off as I bought this stuff to work on my NEW cars BECAUSE it was MILD!
Now I get the feeling PPCL is really no milder than other cleansers..but before I go running off at the mouth, let me wait for Terry's next reply.
