:LOLOL @ what some people think of me

Having been to NYC and living in Chicago for most of my natural life, I can say that Chicago does pwn NYC in the pizza department. Allow me to break it down.

a) Contrary to popular opinion, there are quite a few places in Chicago that serve big honkin' slices similar to the Sicilian style that New Yorkers love.

b) New York Pizza is seasoned differently than Chicago Pizza and it shows in the ingredients.

c) How many places in NY use different types of crusts versus the standard? For example, Leona's in Chicago uses a corn meal crust that is quite good.

I have eaten NY pizza and it is just okay to me. I prefer Chicago style pizza because the seasonings are more balanced than some NY pizzas. Again, this is my personal opinion.

Meh, I wrote a longer response...but let's just say that the discussion about who has the better pizza NY or Chicago will go on forever. Just like who has the better Philly Cheesesteak...Pats or Geno's? Or which Chowda is better? Boston? Rhode Island? Manhattan?

Also, my apologies to Scott for taking this thread WAY off topic

:rofl Agggh!!! I never would never have thought that this would turn into a food thread.

I love it :getdown :getdown :getdown :getdown

next thing you know, it will start turning into a
food-smiley-012.gif
thread... :D

Ruth Chris is not the best steak. Peter Lugers in the north. In Chicago, you have to check out Gibsons and Wildfire. In the south, it would be Shulas. But these are all just opinions.

Sorry boys, but NY City pizza is real pizza. None of this "deep dish" nonsense from Chicago. And forget California; they put all sorts of gourmet crap on it.

Nothing like a trip into the City (or when I worked there) and grabbing a slice from a family owned joint where the pies are slung by Brooklyn Italians.

End of story. I'm right.

As far as steaks, there are 3 fabulous places in NY City (one of them in Brooklyn - Peter Lugers). My favorite being Sparks Steak House which boasts the largest wine list in the country to go with your steak not to mention the scene of the gang style murder of Big Paul Catellano by the crew of John "The Teflon Don" Gotti for the takeover of the mob. They're old skool - just a plate of meat, no trimmings and just a few side dishes. There is a another place - Smith & Wollenskys where I consumed a 36oz. Porter House smothered in a Bearnaise sauce while attending my buddy's Bachelor Party. We proceeded to Scores strip club made famous in Howard Stern's radio broadcasts. After a night of rage (ending up on someone's hardwood floor - whose I still don't know - passed out in a jacket and tie) I proceeded to upchuck that entire 36oz steak mixed with an assortment of alcohol into a shopping bag the next morning while on the train ride home. Ah the memories.

As far as the other detailing site, a couple years ago I was told in a PM that I had a "hidden agenda" by a "moderator" and for some reason I can no longer log in. Haven't given it much thought until now and that thought just ended with the completion of this sentence.

No. Trail Dust rules for steaks. Plus they have a huge slide in the middle of the restaurant.

I love Trail Dust! I was just there on Saturday! The 50 oz "Bullshipper" porterhouse is my favorite. I dare you to eat the whole thing and then do 10 trips up the stairs and down the slide. I did it. Yup, I'm a loser

In Chicago, Wildfire is a classic. Love the atmosphere.

PS - Sorry for starting the threadjack by saying that Chicago has the best pizza . . . but it's true. :grinno:

Thanks PrinzII. I'll break it down even more for anyone in town with little time.

Deep dish: Gino's East in Rolling Meadows - tell them "deep dish sausage patty." There are other GREAT one's like Lou Malnati's or Giordano's, but Gino's East is best in my book.

Thin crust: Home Run Inn in Chicago or Darien. Nothing compares.

You will not beat these pizzas.

Lou Malnatis can be delivered anywhere in the US, and when you get them, they are amazing. For us FL people, they are opening Giordanos like crazy down there. (better than ginos IMHO) but both are good. I am not sure that Chicago or NY is better. Both are very different. And both are very good.

I know you live in Tampa, but for those living in the Miami area . . . has anyone ever visited Frankie's Famous Pizza on Bird Rd. in South Miami? AWESOME pizza that I used to get all the time when I lived in Coral Gables and was once rated one of the top 50 pizza places in the U.S.A. (or maybe it was the world I don't remember) by Conde Nast Traveler magazine.

The best part . . . they put an extra slice on top of the box for you to eat on the way home! :spot
