Logistics of Rock Chip Repair

..As for light metallics...they never come out perfect. Doesn't matter who mixed the paint, who applied, who added "metallic suspenders" and used squeegees, airbrushes, paint thickener...doesn't matter..

While it's not the lightest metallic in the world, the Rhodium Metallic (SS laquer) on my Jag was matched *INCREDIBLY* well by my "good" painter. Dunno how he did it, or how many tries he took, but I (one seriously discerning guy ;) ) had a really tough time spotting it and I knew exactly where the chips were.

But other than that instance, yeah...people usually have unrealistic expectations.

I've had plenty of spot-ins done via small paintguns that were undetectable, but once you start including pro spraying it's a different ballgame.

Are you referring to touch ups? It is possible to do an okay job on rock chips, but scratches longer than an inch? Yikes.

If you're referring to spray work, yes, any skilled painter can make a light metallic repair invisible.

Sorry, I was unclear. The ones on the Jag were stonechips.

Somebody here did an apparently great job on a long scratch, but it took him *FOREVER* and I don't think it was a metallic. Eh...I forget the specifics but he used striping tape to mask off the area in question and he did the work by hand!

I'm with toyotaguy. I'll even get it for them, and they pay me for it. I have kept some standard colors with me.
