Whats the best way to lft polish

As soon as I get a panel perfect and touch it again with a cloth I seem to leave more haze in the clear coat?

I am using a PC with Giriots machine polish 3

James, I'm not familiar with that polish, but maybe a few more details may help others answer you better.

What type of cloth are you removing the polish with?

What pad/speed did you use with the PC to apply it?

What do you plan to use next? It may remove the haze you can see.

Usually the best way to remove any polish residue is just a clean MF, but even that would depend on the type of MF you have. Cheap ones tend to be not very good for paintwork.

Lastly, :welcome :brit to the wonderful world of autopia (even though you are from wrong side of t'hill :p)

Thanks for your reply

I started off with a cotton cloth bur soon realised this was a mistake made worse by the fact I wasn`t working the polish long enough

The second time I worked the polish for longer and used my Giriots drying towel to remove the polish which seemed to work better

I started the PC at speed NO 3 for a while until polish was evenly spread and slightly hazing and then increased through 4 then to speed 6

What do I need to use next? I have been using Giriots best wax but I cannot tell much difference I would like a wet look

Whilst the swirl marks are now pretty much gone which is where I started from under a 500 W inspection light I can see minor longer marks in the paint I have the machine polish 2 and 1 but am worried to use them as I dont wont to make the situation worse - any advice?

Also where can I buy good quality MF towels and cloths in the uk

I thought some others may have chimed in about the griots polish, maybe a search will throw up some more info on them. Some of the fave polishes here are Menzerna, 1Z and Meguiars, all easily available (Menzerna and 1Z from US).

If you've only got the standard PC foam pad, I would suggest a 5" flexible backing plate and a selection of foam pads (cutting, polishing and finishing) from the autopia shop (link at top right). Others have recently bought pads from detailersparadise, I haven't looked at the website yet.......I daren't or another order will land on my doorstep :p

A selection of quality MF's (AG) and other products can be obtained from Alex at www.seriousperformance.co.uk . You can also buy stuff from the US very easily and with the current exchange rate there's never been a better time to buy. For MF's in US there is Ranney at pakshak and Patrick at exceldetail to name 2, there was another recent thread that listed others

There are many products you could use next. Sealants, glazes, sealants topped with wax, glazes topped with wax or just wax :)

Look through 'click and brag' and find the posts by scottwax. He's always got pics of wet looking cars and a list of the products he uses for each one. That would be a good starting point, then just see what everyone else uses on the same colour car as you have.

Find the products which give you the appearance you want and then search for info about the product. How easy is it to apply, remove, does it streak, how long does it last, what problems have people had using it etc.

You will find that on here, there are no 'best' products. Everyone has there faves and quite often they may buy somat, use it, don't like it and then try it again later when they have more info about it and then they like it.

Hope this hasn't confused you too much :)

~One mans opinion / observation~

I usually use a semi-wet micro fibre cloth to remove Griot’s machine polishes (1, 2 & 3 machine polishes are all water soluble) and then dry it with a micro fibre cloth( I assume you are ‘backing off’ with a #2 and then #1 polish). If you want to stick with this supplier try their Microfiber cloths p #11115

~ Hope this helps ~
