Some companies are doing this practice and more are jumping in are this process. I had a new G37 which has this type of finish.

Very true Steve. It seems the new way. Is to switch over to latex based paints and with Hard CC's. Some are mixed together to save a company money in the process. Paint finishes are not going to be the same that we all know in the future.

It can be used with a cutting pad (orange) but it is best to have a rotary if doing so ;)

I think your question is actually intended for Poorboy, but.....
Polishing pads for polishes seems to work good for me.
So far, I have never used a cutting pad with the PC.
 
It's actually not a single stage paintjob....I thought the recent black Lexus paints were single stage as well, but it turns out they have a tinted clearcoat.
