Lexus Black paint job.

Ok, here goes another question.

My girlfriend has a black lexus that's about 1 year old. As with all black cars you can see everything on the paint.
The paint doesnt really have swirl marks but it does have A LOT of little scratches and water marks that wont really come out with just a wash. It does look crappy.
Can i use poorboys professional polish with a white LC pad or should I go straight for the SSR1 and a yellow cutting pad?
What do you guys think?

i would not use ssr1 with a yellow cutting pad. i would suggest ssr1 with a polishing pad or the pp with a polishing pad. If that don't cut it then step it up to 2.5 and orange cutting pad and follow up with the pp and a polishing pad then your lsp.

o yea what kind of machine are you using???

Clay the car to start...I would head for the SSR1 and the cutting pad...that's going to take down the marring...then you can use the PP with a polish pad to enhance the finish..however I think that the SSR will be good enough...some black hole glaze would be real good at this point but if not then head for a good paste wax or sealant

thanks for the reply. I'm using a PC 7424.
I'm glad to hear I can use the PP with a polish pad. I guess I can always go up if I dont get very good results.

No its the other way around..PP is a cleaner polish..then you would use the SSR1..however the SSR1 is a mild enough polish that you should be good to go after the wash and clay..Then the EXP
 
Just a comment about the cutting pad.
I have yet to use a cutting pad with a PC, but I have heard that the results are not always that great. :dunno:
You probably should try a small section to see how it works before you do the entire vehicle. Actually, that's a good idea no matter what combination you use.

I also think I remember reading that Lexus black is single stage paint, (No clear coat), so don't panic if your polishing pad turns black. :)

I would use one or the other ..probably PP

yes, but again PP and SSR1 is a bit of over kill ;)

this really depends on the pad, the speed used, and the product used with the cutting pad

Thanks guys, i really appreciate the feedback. I dont have any SSR1 in stock right now. Havent needed it. I use PP on my truck since it's paint is in good shape. I'll start with then then move up if I have to.
If all ges well i should be working on the car this weekend. I'll take pics of before and after for all to check out.

You might want to do some experimenting with the Pro Polish.
Even though it is non abrasive, I remember some members having very good luck removing blemishes by using different pads.
The PP seems to be very pad dependent.

on the single stage paint, I'd stick to a polishing pad;)

I find it hard to believe that's single stage paint...on a new car...it may not have a clear coat...but it will have some sort of additive to the paint for protection...I was reading about this on another site...can't recall which one...I'll look for it

This is not the same single stage paint of the 60's American cars...in what I read its a single process that they put on the car...mean its the base coat and clear mixed together....eliminating one process...time and money saver and creates a harder finish.

I'm looking for the article that I read on it.

correct, but it will still give off color when polished ;)

You mentioned the PP is somewhat pad dependant. I've always used a LC white polish pad. Do you know of a better pad for it??
