Le Mans Blue BMW M5 Paint Correction

The paint looks flawless under the direct sunlight, great job on the defects removal :bigups . The M5 looks really nice in that blue color.

Great job. The car looks gorgeous. Thanks for explaining all the steps in detail. (no pun intended)

For Porta. I have played with both the Mystique and the UNO. I think the UNO cuts a little bit more than the Mystique, but I think the finish on the Mystique is a little clearer and pops a little more.

Looking forward to seeing more of rickracks work.

Legacy99- Thanks! The reason for the solvent and alcohol wipedown is to ensure that there are absolutely no traces of previous waxes, polish residue, oils or silicones that may be present which can interfere with the polishing process. Some products (especially silicone) tend to deeply embed themselves in the paint and are extremely difficult to remove. A clay bar will only remove bonded contaminants from the top surface of the paint, but the use of a solvent / alcohol really seems to break them down better.

Makes good sense, Thanks.

Demon Detailer- Thanks for the kind words! I have plenty more details to post up if I can ever find the time...

Legacy99- You're wecome!

Revisited...

I did a follow-up detail on this car a little over a week ago because I had used some new products on it when I detailed it last month and told the owner to bring it in after a few washes to see how it was holding up. I wanted to make sure it was looking just as good as it was the day he picked it up. I also told him to pick-up some factory touch-up paint from the dealer so I could touch up any stone chips that were present.

The owner was very pleased with the detail and left a nice post on the M5 board about the detail. Here is the link: Detail from heaven - The Unofficial BMW M5 Messageboard (m5board.com)

The car was looking just as good upon inspection, so no additional polishing was needed.

Here is what was performed:

Exterior wash, extensive cleaning of wheels, tires & wheel wells

Wiped the complete exterior down with 91% alcohol to remove the previous LSP (for proper adhesion of touch-up paint)

Touched-up all stone chips, nicks (let cure)

Hand application of FK-1 Pink Wax to complete exterior

FK 425 wipedown

Zaino Clear-Seal on exterior glass and wheels

Polished exhaust tips with Deep-alum

Vacummed interior

Quick interior wipedown

The results...

WOW Rick!!!

I gotta say...I've never seen pictures like that on Autopia! That new lens really snaps some amazing shots. I thought I was looking at the pages of a Roundel or Bimmer magazine.

Sorry we missed you on the pick up. traffic was something awful. We spent a few minutes marveling at the car and scaring the neighbors by revving the engine!!!

Needless to say when we rolled up at the next light, my bro in law blew my Prius off the line! :tumblewee

I'll tell him to update the M5 forum now....

HOLY CRAP Rick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!................I am borrowing that new lens. I am just going to go buy one myself. Those last pics are:woot::2thumbs: I love the trueness it gives.

Moutee- Thanks a lot!

snowskate- Thanks Jack. I'm glad he was happy with the car! I absolutely fell in love with the color... I guess it's time to modify the Prius, huh? :D

Rydawg- Thanks Ryan! In guess I'll let you borrow it  :LOLOL

**I did some messing around with the settings on the last picture if you didn't notice, but all of the others are straight out of the camera with absolutely no editing whatsoever. I have a feeling that this new camera is going to be an expensive hobby!
