1998 BMW 328. Driven by a college kid...obviously! Lots of chips, swirls, scuffs, scratches, etc but nothing real deep. I detail it in the summer when he is home from college.



101 degree day, no shade. Polished it with Vanilla Moose and a Meguiars polishing pad in the direct sun. Right half polished, left side untouched.

After polishing both sides:

Proof I bust my hump polishing in the direct summer sun and sweat my a$$ off doing it

After the above mentioned polishing and sealing with Poorboy's EX w/carnauba:

2004 Volvo XC90. Excellent condition, weekly wash customer. No swirls, scratches, etc to speak of so I simply sealed it with Menzerna Full Molecular Jacket. Very wet looking LSP!

2005 Chrysler 300C. Yeah, the one with teh HEMI! Polished with Vanilla Moose and a Meguiars polishing pad, topped with Poorboy's EX-P.

2004 Mercedes S500 with the 'C' before the paint code, denoting the use of PPGs Ceramiclear paint. Pretty hard stuff. Anyway, the owner had the right front fender and bumper repaired and repainted and apparently the dealer's body shop got overspray on the hood and trunk lid and used a rotary to remove it. Left a lot of rotary tracers all over both, plus on the trunk lid, it appears they also got something caught under the pad and left little curly q scratches randomly all over the trunk lid.



Before:

I tried to keep the lighting, sun angle, etc as close as possible for this after shot. Used Detailer's Pride Super Swirl Remover with a Meguiars polishing pad then Optimum Polish with another Meguiars polishing pad. I tried Optimum first and it did successfully remove the rotary swirls but it was slow going on the little scratches and halo (spider) swirls, so I switched to the SSE then back to Optimum.



Some of the little scratches didn't come out 100% but you really have to look to see them. BTW, no wax, that really is the way Optimum finishes.

Full car shots, after the above steps on the hood and trunk and Optimum with the Meguiars polishing pad on the sides and roof, then topping with EX w/carnauba.

How much pressure do you generally apply to the PC while polishing? I've always heard it's best to let the PC work under its own weight, but it looks like you apply a bit of pressure. Maybe that's why it seems I'm never able to remove as many imperfections as the more experienced Autopians.

You need to apply enough pressure to bog the motor, then back off just enough to get it back to full speed. If you just use the weight of the PC, you aren't going to remove much.

Still on my first one (15 months old) but I've gone through a couple backing plates and probably 50-60 pads.
