Knee Surgery

Whats going on Guys,

So just my luck i ordered a bunch of stuff on here to try out for the 1st time anddd i just found out i need to go this thurday for surgery (4th surgery for my knees)

the good news, recovery time wont be as bad as the last surgeries.

I have to much scar tissue, cause my left leg has lost range of motion and the screws are not taking. So they gotta come out as well.

What I`m wondering for anyone here that has had knee surgery, to remove hardware and scare tissue. What was the recovery time for you?

As for the previous surgeries. i had patella realignment surgery on both knees. (they fracture the tibia in order to move the knee cap over and screw it down). I had to get that done because i had patella alta and my knee caps liked to dislocate.

Been there and I feel for you. I`ve had 13 knee surgeries between the two. I`ve had hardware removed and replaced. I had two total knee replacements (different model prosethis) in the same leg in a 14 month period. As it was, in essence a revision or knee replacement, it took the better part of year to be myself again.

I`ve just had my 5th knee surgery. Meniscus repair, scar tissue removal, and hardware removal while they were in there. Im about a week into 6 weeks of crutches, with full recovery in 12-16 weeks.

My first one was an ACL repair(basketball injury)and the next three were MRSA clean-out surgeries from an infected hematoma that developed the first 2 weeks post-op.

That infection put me in the hospital for 4 days, and kept me bed ridden(couldn`t go to school)for 8 weeks while I had a pic-line(like a semi-permananent IV)in.

The infection recovery was about 5 months, and the injury recovery with setback was only about 10-11 months of a projected 12(hard work yields early recovery).

After this 5th one, I`m hoping I`m done lol

If yours is just scar tissue removal and hardware removal that doesn`t effect mechanical ability, I wouldn`t imagine you`d be sidelined very long at all

I am so, so sorry. I nursed my gal through just one knee surgery and it was indeed an ordeal for both of us but mostly her. I wish you the very best.

We are the semi-walking wounded. I`ve had 4 knee surgeries. I broke my kneecap at 14 years old and now have to have it cleaned out every 10 years or so (I`m due). Luckily I`ve never had my screws removed. You probably know the drill: ice, drugs, and rest and you will be up and polishing cars in no time. Take care and let us know how things turn out.

Ah, glad to see some other broken people lol.

ViperGuy21 - Yeah so far its to remove the screws and the scar tissue. I cant fully extend my leg out when sitting. I think its cause of all the scar tissue. hes gonna look around in there while removing that stuff as well.

Im kinda wishing they had just done knee replacements. Everyone i talked to that has had that said 8-12 months and they were up and running. My 1st surgery was 17, i dislocated it in gym class but it got stuck to the side. so it stretched out everything. Knees held up for awhile until the last year of the army, dislocated again and from there it was always pain. VA told me for 4 years it was just arthritis, and gave me narcotics. finally saw a sports medicine surgeon (non va) last year, where i found out i had patella alta. Had patella realignment on both knees last year. so thats where i im at now lol.

Here`s my left one done June 1st 2016 (this is the one getting the hardware removal this thurday)

here is the right one done on December 29th 2016:

So, had surgery on Thursday and i was surprised of the size of the screws (or should i say bolts lol). I thought they were a lot smaller.

I had 1 screw and 1 washer removed, and was kinda surpised at the length and heft of the screw myself.

Good luck with your recovery! I`m getting my stitches out on tuesday

Have one kinda like that in my heel. They charged me $1100 for it. Could have went down to ACE and picked it up for a buck twenty-five.

Wow, this thread is for us guys with the gimpy knees to hang out, LOL. I`ve had a partial replacement on my left knee 7.5 years ago. My right is giving me issues now after favouring it for all that time. Knees suck!

I`ve apparently been lucky to avoid joining the Knee Surgery Club...though "lucky" might not be the right word.

Back in the `90s I had to give up driving a stick over knee issues...and that was my *good* knee. The pix did indeed look worrisome and the Doc predicted that replacements were in my future. But then he also told me to quit doing various leg exercises, which I`m still doing...so far so good, but I never did try driving a stick regularly again.

It was weird: knee problem? Quit doing squats and the StairMaster; back problem? Quit doing deadlifts and good mornings (and those squats). Wrong wrong wrong, in my case.

My surgeon said the same about my deep knee bending days are over. i hope that`s not the case. just to early to tell still. As for a stick im glad i no longer have my car. I sold it when i bought my house and needed a truck. I drove yesterday for the 1st time since surgery. Im in the knee immobilizer but still fir with it on, thanks to my truck.

sorry to hear about all those knee problems. we`ll being praying for a fast recovery for you. ive had both knees replaced after years of ineffective arthroscopic repairs and doing better now. the post op physical therapy is definitely the hardest part of recovery. they don`t call them physical terrorists for nothing:blink: hang in there, slow and steady wins the race.
P.S. you are going to be so glad you got your new truck.:)

Mike9965- Hope things turn out better than the Doc expects. And yeah...I hear ya on the "glad I don`t have [that] car anymore".

.... maybe, but for the $1,100 charged by the hospital to you because the following expenses are:
1) Liability= $550 (both by fastener manufacturer and hospital)
2) Materials= $100 (medical grade titanium is not cheap)
3) Manufacturing= $200
4) Inspection and tracking paperwork (worse than the government or military)= $100
5) Hospital "handling charges" (AKA overhead markup)= $150

OK, so this is"Fake News"(IE, I made up) but I think you get the idea on medical charges.

I have 18 smaller screws, 3 plates, many anchors, one large wedge and other miscelaneous hardware in the foot/ankle where that surgery was performed though 5 incisions. I get the numbers game. ;)
