I finally did it! Thanks to all the knowledge I picked up by reading posts here and doing lots of research I finally went through with Klasse last week!

My truck is a 2001, so I didnt prep as much as I otherwise would have since the paint is still in very good condition, however, I have noticed that the results definately are better in the areas I prepped more. The hood for example. My procedures are as follows:

1) Gave the truck an initial wash with MGC

2) Claybarred the hood, as I saw this as being the area with the most to gain

3) Finshed off a thorough washing of the entire car and removed any clay/QD residue

4) AIO across front half of truck, special attention to hood

5) SG across front half of truck

two days later

6) Wash again

7) AIO remainder of truck plus AIOx2 (2nd coat) on hood

8) SG across entire truck, including areas with initial coat already

three days later

9) Wash again

7) SG entire truck

Now up to AIOx2 on my hood and SGx3 across the front half of my truck, SGx2 along the rest of it, I must say that the results are looking EXCELLENT! The paint looks so deep and the color has just changed, it looks so beautiful I cant even explain it. The hood in particular, which I clayed and polished twice looks sooo sooo smooth and glossy like it never did even the day I took her home! Before having done all this I didnt *really* think that there was anything I could do to make my truck look much better being as it is relatively new and all, but after having a couple to 3 layers of Klasse SG all over the truck my mind is totally changed! Much thanks to Autopia for showing me the light! hehe

Well... the following will be a few huge pics... assuming they allow me to upload pics this big lol.

And, finally, one in high detail so that you can inspect the paint luster

Looks Awesome!!! Glad to hear another person is enjoying Klasse. These big trucks take awhile to Klasse... I'm sure you've found that out alreayd :P

Gotta love the orange peel on our truck, too :D

and is that a chip on your door? Should touch that up. Do a search and you'll find some info on fixing that.

Looks great non the less. Nice shine off the hood and the sides!

Oh trust me, I know it takes AGES to wash and polish these things! At least 2 hours a shot for wash + SG! Ouch!

Hey wait... I have orange peel? Can you tell me what it is, I thought that was when your clearcoat started to peel back?

Also as far as the "door chips". I knew someone would think that! If you look close thats actually the reflection in the corner from the flash! Opps =)

I do have a couple scratches I do need to touch up on the bumper, though. =)

Thanks for the compliments!

Nah, it's a factory feature! ;) If you look at your last shot, the way the lines of the house reflection are sort of wavy shows that the paint is not altogether smooth. It's not rough like sandpaper, but on a micro-level is bumpy like the surface of an orange. Don't feel bad- it's super common. My friend Robbin's BMW had it bad on the vertical rear surface of the trunk. We all laughed at it 'cause in other places the paint was simply fabulous.

I really liked the shot across the hood. The red hood against the black ...uh, whatever you call that plastic bit at the bottom of the windshield, cowl trim maybe? looked great. I found myself wondering if the guys who design cars know how that sort of attractive juxtaposition can make an appearance-ocd person feel: real nice!

FunSocalTiger and Intel486,

I wonder if Ford put out some bad paint jobs in 2001 because I have the same orange peel problem with my 2001 Mustang.

Intel, what year is your truck? I'm looking for a trend here. Just a thought. :nixweiss

By the way Fun, the truck looks fantastic!!:xyxthumbs

FunSoCal.....the truck really looks fantastic :bow ! As for the orange peel, my 2001 F150 (same color as yours) also has it. It is pretty much all over the truck but it doesn't bother me much as the finish is very smooth and shines up great. What does bother me a bit is the two or three tiny little black head like zits in the paint (all on the hood). They are tiny but I notice them nonetheless. Of course, my wife thinks I'm being my usual, neat freak self.

Anyway, great job with the Klasse and nice truck!

I have it on my 2000 F-150. I think it is just caused by the way they apply the paint at the factory. I did a 98 explorer and it had orange peel too.

I have a red 97 f150 (paintcode E4) and all along the bottom of the truck the paint is rippled, but not crached, and on parts of the bottoms of the doors the paint is thin. It has clear, and you can see primer up close. I checked my dad's stang right after he bought it (buy bakc policy at this dealer) for paint imperfections. He has none. His car is mineral grey.

The next truck I get from ford will have a 4 hour inspection at teh dedaler with somone who works there. If i find somthing wrong the truck is geting re painted.

oo yeah, i'm taking estimates on re-painting my truck right now also.....

sux for us.

guys - realize that all "big-three" produced vehicles have orange peel in their paint. This is because they don't have the high-tech high-quailty paint processing that other manufacturers like Bently, Rolls, Jag, etc.... have. I've seen it on every car that has passed thru my hands detailing, including the C5 corvettes. Nothing can escape the evil orange peel. :wavey

I absolutely love Klasse success stories! :bounce

Any tips you can give on your application for those "struggling" to apply Klasse for the first time?

Very good show.
