Just got a deal to do 20 - 25 cars a month for a small dealership, need help on......

It honestly just boils down to an hourly rate, regardless of the job you're doing, if youre making less than 35 an hour i wouldn't bother. make if worth your while, you'll be fine if you just keep in mind you are a business that needs to make money not kill yourself for pennies on the dollar.

Possibly resort to using a non-wax LSP such as CS, OS, or UPGP... rub on walk off sorta deal? Saves the buffing time... its what I do with my $99 details.

Don't forget that you will have to pay taxes on what the dealer pays you, as he will be reporting his expenses on his tax forms and handing you a 1099 at the end of the year.

oh and the washes arent your normal 1 hour washes...they get dropped to getting most of the dirt off the car, then using the onestep (megs 66) to remove oxidation and remaining stubborn dirt...you are just getting the cars ready for sale, not making them showroom ready...give or take what they expect....

I know its just so hard because I have been taught by Autopia since I started detailing and I have ALWAYS detailed cars to an Autopian level even if they were details that paid less than that.

Let me put it another way, in college several times I was close to an A grade or at an A grade. I would ask my professors what I needed to do to get that A grade or maintain it. A lot of times the would say you just need a C on the final to reach your end goal. I could never do that, I cannot just do C work, I always studied my a$$ off to get the A (the few times it was available) even though I could have gotten by with just C work. Its just the way my dad raised me and the way I believe in servicing my clients.

WOW!....I'm going throught the same thing. I've been notified at the end of September that my sales job is going away because our small company was gobbled up by a bigger one.

So, I'm doing lots of details outside my shop environment to build some savings for the winter (or until I get another job).

Hang in there William.....know what you're going through!

Well Im glad that I am not the only one. What really pissed me off was that we went through this extensive intensive 4 week training that was 60 hours a week and all through the training everyone up to the CEO and COO would rip the competion up and talk about how much better our service and product was. Then all of a sudden on July 30th we get the 4pm call into HR telling us how our jobs are gone and we get three weeks severance. Hey thanks a$$holes, I can really live on the $4.5k of severance you gave me. Makes me really wish I did something with my college degree in Sociology vs getting into corporate America.

That was probably part of their sales pitch to the buyer, how the staff was just extensively trained. Gotta love how corporate America works these days! I bet if any executives lost their jobs their severance pkg. was a bit better than yours.

Exactly, sad part is that we were a private company that had been in existence since 1896 now they took this great company and gave it away. I had lunch with the CEO the day before they announced it and she was still feeding me her BS.

Anyways, Im off to the Minnesota State Fair to stuff myself with fried food and drink a few beers. See you all tonight.

Poli-Seal or Meguiars #66 would work well.

I agree with David though, even doing a less intensive detail is still going to take some time, probably more than you think. Plus, a car dealer is going to expect you to take care of his cars first.

If you're looking for a job in the Twin Cities area... I could use another good full time detailer.:xyxthumbs
I would love to but I don't think that you would be willing to pay me what I normally make per year but I sincerely appreciate your willingness to help me out. I would however be happy to work with you / for you while I am searching for work. eMail me at [email protected] if you are interested. Hell if anything its just fun to talk to another local detailer.

Well like I have been saying, I need the income but just dont want to get raped. I guess even if I could do two cars in 8 hours and pull out $250 I would be happy right now. Its still over $31 an hour and its steady work and I have a lot of product I can use up. It puts food on the table and helps pay the bills.

i was contacted by one guy who wanted the works for 100 bucks...would send me about 10 cars a month....here is what he wanted:

wash, clay, engine, compound, glaze, wax, interior shampooed, all plastics steam cleaned and dressed, windows polished and cleaned, trim revitalized, all chrome polished bright, and headlights sanded and deoxidized....

here is what I told him: 200-300 per car for the volume work since he would be giving me more business

him: well I had a guy coming out from riverside (i am in orange county by the beach) who would do it for 100 bucks for a couple months, but then he moved

IM thinking: the other guy just got smart and decided he was wasting his time

ME: well thats a full days work and for 100 bucks, I cant make a living off that hence the price difference. If you would like I can do a one step polish/wax, full interior on each car, but not the engine or the other processes you wanted as its too time consuming

HIM: CLICK

hahaha...that was the best call I have gotten to this day. Not even the price shoppers were that bad. At least they just wanted a wash and wax and full interior for 50-70 bucks...on a suburban!!! LOL

gotta love it though

I get those all the time through e-mail. price shoppers that wanna let me know that they got a detail cheaper somewhere. "Oh thank you, but I found someone who is gonna details the interior and exterior of my expedition (note, with dog hair) for $100."

Yeah good luck lady... I just replied "If you need me to fix what this detailer does my price is still $300. Regards...".

Sounds like you are going to be quite busy duing your "downtime". However, what are you going to do when it comes to issues such as insurance and other capital expenses? With that volume of work, is Megan going to help you?

Hey Prinz,

I am covered under my current insurance and I have a ton of product right now that I can use up. I would have to order a few things but thats about it. Megan would work with me on weekends, she usually does interiors. I can handle it during the week myself thats not an issue. Its just 4-6 cars a week. I am supposed to meet with the guy today or tomorrow. I hope it works out. Did you see Megan and I got married?

I think Pinz is having fun with you cuz he figured out the Oz came back... AGAIN... after being banned.

I believe that you own Prinz an apology for dropping the N-bomb on him the last time you were banned... don't you?

Indeed I do, Prinz I do apologize for that. Different person at the time in a different life. If you read my last 600+ posts you will see that. Anyways hope you are doing well.

Back to topic, I meet with the gentleman at this dealership tomorrow. Should be interesting, time to sell again!
