Hello. my name is beau and I am the ghost of Autopias past. 1999 I think. The dreaded "sealant wars" drove me underground, where I have been detailing by candlelight. But surfing an Audi message board (luckily my cave is equipped with DSL) I saw a name that piqued my interest. A name from my past. The name was "neoprufrok". Where did I know this name from? What did it mean? Luckily for me, my brain is abnormally small, so it didn't take much time to locate that memory amongst my cerebral landscape littered with empty boxes where brain cells should be.

Autopia Dr. Ha, from back in the early days when I used to visit that forum. Damn, what was it's name? Oh yeah; Autopia!

So off to Autopia-carcare.com I go. And aww, it's Holly. So that means God is on his throne and all is right with the world. So after some registeration problems that David helped me with, and after a half-dozen reviews, I wanted to say hi to everyone.

And my, how this place has grown. Coming from a time when we were championing this new fabric called microfiber, an old German acrylic sealant called Klasse, and a closely guarded concours secret that involved layering a carnauba over a synethic sealant! It's nice to see these things are now apart of the detailing mainstream. The building blocks of contemporary automotive detailing.

Woah, what are all these acronyms? Wouldn't it be cool that when you typed in, say , "UPP" or "SSR1" an image would appear, or at least the entire abbreviated phrase? Might help those like me with dimished mental capacities.

So after $400 in new detailing supplies, I feel ready to start learning anew from Autopia, and maybe even pass on something I've picked up along the way, too. Hope to see some old faces in here, as well as meet plenty of the new folks.

Old detailers never die. They just fade away.

PS here is a picture that has absolutely nothing to do with automotive detailing, but Natalie Portman has always been a particular source of inspiration for me;-)

Welcome back. I posted one of your threads about patients and technique a few months ago - spooky

It is great to see you back at Autopia :xyxthumbs

:welcome back to Autopia Beau

Old detailers never die. They just fade away (best news I've had for days)

Welcome back!

I and many many others have benefitted greatly from the doors of knowledge opened by you and the other early Autopians.

So allow me to raise my pc(that's the acronym for Porter Cable 7424 polisher ;)) and welcome you back!!!

p.s. I thought old detailers oxidized

Good to meet you,

Good to see you back, Beau. I saw your name in the shout box the other day and wondered about ya. Its good to know that you are still around. :bigups

HOLY JEEEEEEZ!!!!!

BEAU!!!!

The man that turned me onto Klasse!!! Is back!!!

Wow!!!

Beau, welcome back to the wonderful world of autopia. I was on hiatus myself for a while then came back a few months ago.

One thing you'll find. Lots of new products, but... nevermind, you'll see for yourself.

So are you still using klasse? How are you applying and removing?

Anyway, good to see you. Take it easy.

Beau,

It is good to see another 'old timer' back and active (I mean 'old timer' in the most flattering and best way) ;)

This site has a large number of newbies looking for answers, so I am sure your presence (sp?) and knowledge will be welcome!!!! :xyxthumbs

Place your mouse over the text in blue in the quote above. I know an easy way to do this in HTML, but I don't know how (or if) it can be incorporated it into the forum software so that it could scan for acronyms, then doctor the HTML to show the tooltip as I did.

Hey Beau!

Another old name here ;)

I, too, have crawled back onto this forum...been in almost-lurk mode until recently.

As Lindsey Buckingham says prior to playing "Big Love" on the Fleetwood Mac DVD "The Dance"...

"This all confirms my belief in cycles".

Welcome back!

blue skies,

Andrew

woohoo, looks like the gang all might be here.

BTW, saw Snake the other day at the Lexington Concourse D'Elegance. We were both spectating, I was drooling over most of the entries, but mostly over a Austin Healy 100-M and (even more) a Ferrari 275-GTB with an all alloy body.

blue skies,

Andrew

Good to have another Autopia Founding Father back.

I wasn't around then, but the response you are getting makes it seem you were quite a big dog on the boards then.

Looking forward to your upcoming posts.

hey Beau, do you still have "my first Lexus"?

Still have the LS....slightly worse for wear, but someone just yesterday asked me what year it was...they thought it was new!

hook, I'm afraid I sold out and went German. Have an '04 Audi A4 3.0 Quattro with Ultra Sports Package.

As I like to give all my cars humble names (like my Toyota-In-A-Tuxedo AKA Lexus ES300), I have christened my Audi:

"Poor Man's S4" or...

"Rich Man's Passat". ;-)

So nice to see familiar faces; even you, DETAILKING!

Does Snake ever come around here? Nice to see oldies from the States, The Great White North, Dear Ol Blighty and beyond.

Do I still use Klasse? Surely you jest! Here was my last routine on my virgin Audi:

Wash down.

Clay with Mothers clay (didn't need it, surprisingly)

Menzerna final polish with Green Giant polishing pad and my PC.

All-In-One with Surbuf buffing pads, lightly misted with Sonus using my PC.

3 coats of Sealant Glaze, applied using a Surbuf pad, misted with Sonus.

Microfiber used: Magic Towels

Looks great. But I think it needs a Carnauba topper. All these new Carnaubas have me wondering which way to go. Can anyone recommend a Carnauba for Audi's "Dolphin Grey"; which is like a medium grey?

Now I better get on the freeway before all the holiday traffic drives me insane...

Nice to see some familiar names from the old days (when I was just lurking). Gee...haven't seen Snake on here in ages.

Beau- Any word on whether Neoprufrock/Richard/Dr. Ha got the holograms out of his Audi? I felt just awful that none of our suggestions seemed to work...
