Yup... I have to report at 8 am for jury duty...



My schedule is slammed for about 3 weeks and I have to push them all out until I'm done... I'm not happy and my clients aren't happy.



Just venting, thanks for listening.
 
Not looking forward to the day I'm picked for jury duty. I guess that's when you pull out your hate card to get out of it. :)

No, I go tomorrow for the selection process, or as the smart people say, voir dire...



I really hope I don't get picked... I don't have time for this poop.
 
Not sure about FL. But in many states you can be excused if you have a business that cannot run without you. It is worth pleading the case.

Trust me, I will be letting them know the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth!
 
I got called once and when they did the jury screening, the prosecutor got into an argument with me. I got dismissed and never ever got another jury duty summons.
 
My plan when I get called for jury duty



"I am so glad to be called for jury duty. I have always had talent to be able to tell if someone is guilty or not just by their manerisms. I don't even have to hear a word they say. 1 look is all it takes and BAM, I know if a person is guilty"



I've always wondered if the court would still want me after saying the above.
 
I actually enjoyed being on Jury duty (5 days) and found the whole thing pretty interesting...I had a good case though and my work paid for my time off. :)
 
I got kicked out the last time I was called because I told the judge that I had seen information on the case and had already made up my mind (true statement - a man was arrested for beating his wife and she slapped him while he had the cuffs on. She was arrested and HE got out of jail before she did, and HIS charges were dropped, while hers was the case we were called for).



But the cases can be entertaining too - the case of the "popcorn" pimp was lots of fun!
 
True story, a friend of mine was called for jury selection and when asked a question he didn't speak at all, just winked and made a thumbs up gesture to the panel. He was out of there before his parking meter expired. :)



Not that I would condone such a response to doing your civic duty. Ahem.
 
I firmly believe you should treat jury duty as a privilege and duty. Consider how you would feel if you were being sued wrongfully and only had welfare recipients/unemployed people deciding the case against you.



We wouldn't need tort reform if business-savvy people stayed on juries and decided the cases. Unfortunately, we all feel we have something more important to do and leave the "great unwashed" to stick it to the man with their verdicts.



In Florida, the only qualification to be a juror (and maybe decide a complex multi-million dollar medical malpractice case) is to be a licensed driver.

As you might be able to tell, I'm a personal injury lawyer who DEFENDS the people sued by the advertising ambulance chasers and would love to have responsible, productive citizens as my jurors. They are much more likely to decide cases based on the facts and the law and not on emotion, sympathy and/or prejudice.

I got selected to serve on the jury also. Need to report back to the courthouse in the morning. Looking at a trial estimated to be 3 or 4 days. And yes... pretty inconvenient. It's a pretty lengthy process and a bit energy draining. In all honesty, just not very happy about it.

Unfortunately not. Under the slim chances, I somehow ended up on the juror panel. Kind of a bummer. Hoping for the best. The good news is that I am a student (waiting for my last class next quarter) and part-time employee, so there is some flexibility in the matter, but in all honesty, I'd rather be in the garage playing with the M101 you sent me!

My wife is also a lawyer....pretty sad how much effect a poor jury can have on a verdict.
 
After my mom retired she hoped to get picked. If it wouldn't hurt a business I had, I wouldn't mind serving. Of course one of the advantages of being in the Army is I don't get picked (of course the disadvantage is I get picked to go to war zones occasionally).
