Jury Duty...

I got out early today... which I spent the rest of the day cleaning out a friend's car. I found a DSL modem, ethernet cables, tons of receipts and tickets, and 400 and 800 grit sandpaper... Now I know where those sanding marks on the door came from...

But yeah... back to the courthouse tomorrow morning at 9 again... for a fourth day.

My trial wrapped up today... Cocaine trafficker... Guilty on all 4 charges!

I know more about cocaine, crack, and drug dealing than I ever cared to know...

It was a very boring, but interesting 2 days.

I'm so happy I'm slammed for the next 3 weeks! I cannot wait to get back to work tomorrow!

I firmly believe you should treat jury duty as a privilege and duty.

I don't disagree, but for some people, requiring them to take unpaid time off work could put them in a position of needing welfare. How about reducing the jury pool to only those with incomes of 6 figures and higher. Solves the problem all the way around.:fencing:

Nice. Glad that your trial came to an end. Hoping mine will be ending tomorrow, but we'll see. Things are not black and white, and sometimes it's hard to separate fact and fiction...

I got called once and when they did the jury screening, the prosecutor got into an argument with me. I got dismissed and never ever got another jury duty summons.

A friend did similar...tell 'em the defendent is obviously guilty or he wouldn't be there. The defense will bounce you out pronto.

I didn't start an argument with the prosecutor to get off the panel, it just turned out that way. He was representing a big insurance company, one that says you're in good hands, one that I had recent dealings with and one that repeatedly lied to try to avoid paying a claim. He was asking if anyone on the panel didn't believe that this insurance company was merely a benevolent organization that just collected premiums to pay out to claimants, yada, yada, yada. I raised my hand and said I didn't see this insurance company in that light. He progressed to vigorously try to change my mind in front of the prospective jury pool. The judge abruptly, and in no uncertain terms, told the prosecutor to shut his mouth and sit down as he was about to taint the whole jury pool.

I am entitled to my opinion and my opinion would have made it impossible to remain an objective jurist in this case. I was one of several jurors dismissed that day. I was actually looking forward to serving and believe it is my civic duty to serve but I don't think I could have been objective due to my prior bad experience with the company involved.

I received a summons and have to report for jury duty 9AM Monday. This will be the 2nd or 3rd time. Never been picked for a case but have sat around all day waiting for them to figure it out.

I hope I don't get picked. I have Tues and Wed off and would hate to spend those days listening to someone ranting about insurance company rip off's.

i was in a jury pool and during the selection process for a case a young man identified himself, where he lived and proceeded to say without being asked that he hated cops, didn't like being around cops like in the courthouse and was excused not only from the selection process for that case, but from the jury pool.

personally, i thought being on a jury was interesting.
