Joined a camera(photography) club...

it was my first time...
Well last Tuesday I was "inducted" into a local photography club. I've visted the last 2-3 meetings last May, and now that its starting up for the fall, I decided to join. The main reason I knew about it was because my best friend's father is a "senior member" there so he would always tell me to come. I'm pretty happy about joining it, and hope to learn a lot from them. Quite a few of the senior members assured me that the club is very informal, so I don't need to get discouraged when I see other photos, which are absolutely amazing. I told them before I joined that I don't have lots of experience and that my camera isn't the greatest, higher end P+S, but they said not to worry about it and that some members prefer shooting with P+S and even disposable, so I guess its kinda like Autopia, where process>product or technique>camera. I'm also really happy that the people are very friendly. Apparently this club has a really high reputation in nature according to another new member. Heres a link of the club's site. You can take a look in the photo gallery to see some of the "slides of the year". I think they are very impressive.

Cool! That sounds great, I hope you keep us apprised of how it goes. Their site has some nice pics all right- that bird coming in for a landing is incredible.

Accumulatorette and I are somewhat unskilled, but very enthusiastic, when it comes to photography, doing it all manually with sorta "old school" 35mms with manual everything. We're just now trying to get back into it a little more seriously (hand held meters, etc.). Sure would be cool to hook up with a group like you found.

Don't worry about the equipment. If you decide you want to get serious, you can get anything you'd need *really* cheap now that the rest of the world has gone digital. I'm just now about to retire the Pentax system I've been using for over 30 years, and you could buy a similar setup for a pittance.
