Jeep cleaned up...

Greg Gellas

I'm Greg :)
After doing that CL yesterday, I was beat. Although I knew I had a customer dropping off his Jeep today so I went to bed as early as I could last night. I had recently seen the Jeep and the paint wasn't too bad. Paint, engine bay, wheel wells, were done.

As always :D I started by pulling the wheels. I really like doing it this way, it allows me to to really scrub the wheel wells and allows the woman to really clean the wheels

She soaked them with Meg's Wheel Brightener...

DSC_0345.jpg

Then went to town....She was able to get all that pitting off the wheels...

While she was working on the wheels, I moved on to the Wells...I allowed de-greaser to soak into the wells for quite a while then agitated with my ez detail mini brush.

After I put the wheels back on I moved on to the engine bay it was in prety ugly shape...Also not a sea of plastic it had alot of difficult to get areas...I sprayed degreaser and allowed it to sit for a while, I took a 10 minuted break cause it was hot out there today...

My little helper also was getting tired...She likes to chew on the empty paper towel rolls.

After I moved onto the paint. I decided that a white pad with power finish was the way to go. It removed almost every issue.

There were some areas I need to steup to a orange pad to remove the damage :D Although not exactly the same pictures you can get a reference for the area by the dent.

Befores..

After I washed again I began dressing the engine bay and wheel wells. I used Fade2Black and 303 for each depending on what I was using it on :D

Where that swaybar bracket is... is that mud or rust!?

I love JK 4-dr Jeeps... wish they weren't so expensive!

God your good haha ! Great job...it's unfortunate though that Chrysler has gone down the dumps (and I don't mean financially) I mean the cars (specifically Jeeps) are complete garbage now ...My dad has a 97 Cherokee 4.0L and its the best but last car he'll ever own from them ...that was back when they made a decent product! Those new Liberty's are god awful ...ruined them too from the 1st gen

Looks good, but do all that work and not have the doors there?

Also, I really hope you put some jack stands under that truck!!

There is so much rust on that undercarriage.

Yea, that is DEFINATELY rust. I thought Nissan was bad, but that is unbelievable. That jeep can't be more than three years old, can it? I don't car what kind of winter there are, that is too much rust for a car of that age.

The front frames of Wranglers are rather exposed and have a poor coating from the factory. I need to recondition the front of my frame.

Good job with the detailing.

...Tell your customer to put the air filter back on.

I Pulled the filter for cleaning purposes...I didn't want to get it wet when I cleaning.

Here is a close up of what I was dealing with...It came out pretty good considering I wasn't doing any sort of rust inhibitor. I have shown the owner the rust and he said he will bring it back to get it taken care of...:D

Looks like there is a lot of rust under the entire car,and even in the engine bay. Looks like everything is just painted black, no real coating. It won't be cheap fixing all that.

Seems like the Chinese will soon have better quality cars than the American companies.. Sad but true..

Besides Meg's Wheel Brightener, what did you use to get that wheel looking good and to remove the pitting?

Elbow grease...:D They were painted wheels so I couldn't go at them TOOO hard to get the pitting out, it was more time and work on them without hurting the finish. :) If they were machined wheels, like the cl I recently did I would have attacked them with some flitz to really get them shiny.

Nice 'opinion' youve got there but its incorrect. :2thumbs:

Nice looking Jeep. Rust did seem to be a bit excessive. May want to inform the owner he needs to keep it sprayed off in the winter months.

Yeah, its really nice to have the fiance help out...She is getting really good on interior work. Only problem is she says "oh we have enough products why do we need more?" I love getting the new stuff :D

I actually have that same make and model. Great SUV just the door hindges are starting to pop and peel and I need to take it back to see if the dealership will do anything about it. It's a 2008 model for the love of god...Anyway, great looking detail, didn't mean to threadjack.

The owner acutally asked me about the rust....We decided to go with a rust encapsulating paint. Hopefully that will solve his problems and prevent any furthur damage..

I use Rustoleum enamel to repair rust spots on my Jeep's frame. I really recommend removing as much rust as possible. It only takes small amount of rust for it all to come back.

Wow, I don't mean to "kick the dead horse" in this thread, but the amount and depth of undercarriage rust on that vehicle is straight unacceptable. All 4 door Wranglers are virtually "new cars", so it just makes no sense.

In my own life, I've owned US-made vehicles for many more miles/years than foreign, but this thread certainly doesn't help my opinion of Chrysler Corp. products. Who are they outsourcing steel supplies from? Somali pot metal recyclers? Add this to their "Rubbermaid" interiors, and it's no surprise they're in the situation they're in as a manufacturer.

Great job on the correction and detail though! The 4 door Wranglers are still a nifty vehicle, nonetheless. I suppose the guys that own them view the build quality shortcomings as appealing, and part of the vehicle's "soul"... or something.
